Eminem Claims “There Is No Relapse 2”

emememEminem announced early this morning via his Twitter account that “There is no Relapse 2.”  The album, which was supposed to follow up last year’s successful Relapse, has been in the pending release stage for months, and now finally has been scrapped altogether.  It’s interesting to hear Eminem cancel this album around the same time his mentor / cohort Dr. Dre is about to release his first fresh album, Detox, since 1999’s Chronic 2001.

It’s possible they are holding off on completing another Eminem album until Dre‘s album is done and supported, however, it seems to me that Em realized he couldn’t release two concept albums in a row on the same topic (his addiction to drugs).  As has become customary with Eminem, Dre, and the whole Interscope / Aftermath / Shady Records crew, we’ll just have to take a “sit back and wait” approach.  Your guess is as good as mine as to when we’ll see the once prolific Eminem again.

UPDATE: Eminem has just released a statement regarding his new album Recovery, which apparently is the replacement for Relapse 2.  Just like I thought, he didn’t want to have the same concept for 2 albums in a row.

Eminem: I had originally planned for Relapse 2 to come out last year,” says Eminem. “But as I kept recording and working with new producers, the idea of a sequel to Relapse started to make less and less sense to me, and I wanted to make a completely new album.  The music on Recovery came out very different from Relapse, and I think it deserves its own title.
