Wu-Tang: The Biography

Today I caught sight of some interesting literary material! Biographies are always something I am skeptical about, but Alvin Blanco, a true fanatic of the Wu Tang Clan, seems to be on to something. Alvin sat down with Fuse’s Hip Hop Shop to discuss his interesting biography on Wu-Tang Clan; he discusses the culture of the clan (Kung Fu videos and all), their innovative talent and of course their influence on the hip hop music business as a whole.

The Wu-Tang Clan and RZA: A Trip Through Hip Hop’s 36 Chambers delves into Wu-Tang’s discography and this book is highly esteemed to be “the ultimate guide to the labyrinthine musical world of the legendary Wu-Tang Clan” by fellow lover and author of Hip Hop music and culture, Brian Coleman.

Blanco explains his inspiration:

“What inspired me to write about Wu-Tang Clan was that I was a fan from [the] jump. When you’re in the moment, you don’t realize how important this music was to hip hop in general. But looking back it’s just amazing how big the Wu-Tang Clan was. This was before YouTube, this was before the internet was really major where any artist could drop an album, leak it online and everybody will hear it. Wu-Tang was such an act that whatever they would put out, people would automatically seek it out when it wasn’t easy to do.”

Check out the video below. If you’re as convinced as I am, you can get the book at any local bookstore or on Amazon.
