Rocky delivers an incredible track complete with a Moby sample.
A$AP Rocky’s follow-up to his 2015 critically and fan-acclaimed album, AT.LONG.LAST.A$AP., has been a perpetual rumor mill. We’ve learned tidbits of hearsay, but no concrete information or proof had surfaced, creating a stir amongst the hip-hop community. People questioned his ambitions, if he’d grown more partial towards fashion than music, does he still have it, etc. But while Rocky is as comfortable on the runway as he is in the booth, that doesn’t mean that he’s retarded his musical production.
Last week, Rocky returned from a long solo artist hiatus with “Bad Company” featuring exploding artist, BlocBoy JB. A solid addition to Rocky’s diverse catalogue, it was fine, but didn’t capture the essence that he radiated on AT.LONG.LAST.A$AP.–it didn’t have that staple Rocky “vibe”. Today, that’s changed, as he’s reminded us why he is one of the most imaginative artists in the game with his new track, “A$AP Forever”, featuring a Moby sample.
This song is vintage Rocky: it pushes the creative envelope without straying too far from a hip-hop nucleus. Conflating sounds structure the springboard for Rocky’s echoed flow to effortlessly glide across, creating a truly unique product in a fashion exclusive to A$AP Rocky.
With two singles released, I think it’s fair to say that an album is around the corner.
