paul-article_phixrGaining worldwide exposure back in 2004 by appearing on Mike Jones’ [Click to read album review] ‘Still Tippin,’’ along side Slim Thug [Click to read album review], Paul “Wall” Slayton hit the ground running and never looked back.

With two major albums under his belt in The Peoples Champ and Get Money, Stay True— the man most known for his love of candy paint and custom made grills is back with his newest opus, Fast Life.

Keeping it in the family as most rappers from the South do, the only names you’ll on the project are fellow Southerners like Webbie, Yung Joc, Gorilla Zoe [Click to read album review], Lil Keke, Z-Ro and Trae.

His get money/hustle/grind mentality is on full display on songs like ‘I Need Mo,’ ‘Got To Get It,and ‘I Grind.

On ‘Daddy Wasn’t Home,Paul Wall goes away from his “how to get rich quick” theme and opens up about his upbringing growing up in a father-less home, which comes with a Chopped & Screwed hook.

Heavily tatted-up drummer Travis Barker adds a soundboard to his percussion skills, as he produces ‘Pop One Of These’ (feat. Too $hort). ‘Fly’ featuring Yung Joc and Gorilla Zoe is the obligatory song where they give praise to themselves, while maintaining their flyness in the process.

One of the strongest songs comes on ‘Pressin’ Them Buttons’ featuring Lil Keke and Trae. Even though Paul Wall shares the limelight, he still manages not to be out shined with line like, “I’m caked up/my money run long like Terrell Owens/got the parking lot bopping when I drop them screens/I’m on the Internet stuntin’/I’m the YouTube king.

Other songs living the fast life are contributions like ‘I’m Clean,’ Sumn’ Like A Pimp, and ‘One Hundred’ featuring Z-Ro and Yung Redd, which all fail to really standout.

Paul Wall’s Fast Life isn’t as good as his previous work, however in his defense, it’s always difficult to duplicate what made you so successful to begin with.

With that being said, climbing the mountain again might be utterly impossible, but showing improvement isn’t, and that’s where the peoples champ falls short with his latest project…
