and now, onto industry news

so, big tings poppin in the internets world.  google launched buzz, which for those of you lame enough to not be using gmail haven’t found out yet, is basically just like twitter, for your gmail buddies.  Is it gonna actually have an effect on twitter?  I don’t know.  Twitter’s pretty dug in, but google is definitely making their play to have theirs hands in this little “social networking” thing that’s been going on.

.

Rhapsody is being spun-off from Real Networks
Real Networks and MTV are trimming the fat.  They’re getting rid of Rhapsody by slowly selling off their shares.  Is streaming in this much trouble already?

.

MySpace, the original home of streaming music, is hurting too…

MySpace CEO Owen Van Natta is stepping down after only 10 months on the job.  With 54% of all internets users in the US on facebook, and only 27% on MySpace, it seems like the once social-networking king is no longer really doing social networking, and is certainly not king.  People don’t use MySpace the way they once did, and with it’s traffic decreasing, the question remains, can they create a succesful business model off of… you guessed it, streaming music?

.

A Thoughtful piece on the future of online video…

… because how could we talk about streaming audio with talking about the elephant in the room?  Streaming video.  This article essentially mirrors much of my thinking about audio.  1) that with so many limitless possibilities for where to get content, it’s less about the content, and more about the delivery of that content, and 2) that even good content and delivery does not guarantee business success, yet.

As usual, get at me if there are any sales figures you want to see, and if any of this industry shit is interesting, holler.  Until next time,

peace.
