The results are in for the showdown that I’ve been waiting for….and no, I’m not talking about the Canibus/Dizaster battle. Smoker’s Club alumnus, Curren$y and Big K.R.I.T. both dropped albums on the same day, but K.R.I.T. came out on top with his soulful yet southern commercial debut. K.R.I.T. moved roughly 5,000 more units than Spitta this past week when the two faced off at retail. I can’t say that I was entirely surprised with this given how the Mississippi rhymer/producer has received critical praise from both hip-hop and mainstream publications since his debut mixtape, K.R.I.T. Was Here. Either way, this is an improvement for Spitta who sold about 14,000 more units than he did on opening week for his previous solo effort, Weekend At Burnie’s.

Now, onto one thing that I eagerly want to address….the real victor in the sales department was not K.R.I.T. – it was Tunechi.  the net has been buzzing with hatred for the first single from Lil Wayne’s I Am Not A Human Being 2. It seems that the single, “My Homies Still” featuring Big Sean, has been universally lambasted by fans. In all honesty the song’s not great, but it’s not that bad either. I just find it interesting how it only has 3 stars on iTunes, but still managed to sell 99k in its first week of release. That’s right; the song that is free almost everywhere and hated on by nearly everyone has sold 99k in its first week. Just think about that for a moment and realize that Lil Wayne isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
