The bill would threaten internet pirates with a warning letter, and then failing compliance, would see the user’s internet service cut off for 1 month to a a year, and allow for fines and possible jailtime…  All eyes are on the French with this one, but in typical fashion, they’re going to wait till their summer vacation is over before weighing in…

Following the recent trend (I just wrote about imeem opening their own digital download store a couple of weeks ago), the #1 digital music provider for Facebook is seeking to cut out the middleman (iTunes and Amazon) and turn some of their traffic into profit, by selling digital music direct to consumers/users.

Kazaa to relaunch as paid subscription site $20 / month

For $20 a month, I would like to be able to put my unlimited music on a mobile device, like an ipod, or a zune, or whatever.  And be able to play it on more than 3 PCs.  This
Can’t put music on portable devices like iPods… once subscription is over, can’t listen to music, can only put on 3 PCs.  This reeks of quick failure…

New Label Model Emerging

Big wigs from the music world, including Radiohead’s manager, are launching a new type of company that sees the musician as a start-up company… will this stick?  With $20 million of their own money sunk in, the founders better hope so.
