Digital Music Sales slowing down?
Digital sales aren’t growing as fast as they appear to be.  With physical sales dropping off so hard, everything seems like it’s a little better than it is with digital sales.  But the reality of the situation is not pretty

Finally Facebook Gets Music Commerce
Nimbit Launches “My Store” (an app) which allows users on Facebook to stream tracks and buy both digital and physical goods (merch, CDs, DVDs, etc). Combining music purchasing with the “social” aspect of “everyone’s watching all the time” (which is what has made Facebook so successful) could be a very powerful tool…

Album Sales continue to fall
This isn’t really news anymore, but the numbers are pretty bleak.  Album sales in August are down 18.1% off of last year’s numbers, and 37% off of 2007’s numbers.

HMV Acquires 50% stake in 7 Digital
The British retailer HMV (they still exist?) forked over $12.6 million to acquire 50% of 7 Digital, who will now be serving all their digital content, mp3s, videos, etc, and HMV gets their catalog of 6 million plus tracks for sale.  I’ve written here before about how it’s only really the top 50,000 or so songs that generate significant sales digitally.  Everything else is just a hum, so unuless 7 Digital can add something else to the equation, other than just a truckload of mp3s for sale, this could end ugly…

And now finally, the real question.  HOV vs. the Chef.  Right now, Raekwon is ahead of Jay on the iTunes Digital Album Sales Chart.  Can that last?  What does that mean?
