Baron Davis, QD3 Bag Emmy Nods With “Crips and Bloods”

I didn’t know what to think when I heard LA Clippers point guard Baron Davis (left) was putting serious time, money and energy into producing and financing films. NBA players don’t have the best track record when it comes to tying their names to movies but I wished him well regardless. Then I checked Davis’s produced Crips and Bloods: Made In America alongside Quincy Jones III about a year ago and had to give credit where it was due. They did a good job of chronicling gang culture all the way back to its roots dating back to over 50 years ago. What’s more is the film didn’t glamorize gang life. Instead it explained the culture and let the viewer see how messed up things are from the outside in.

Crips and Bloods recently got nominated for an Emmy at the Annual Emmy Awards for News and Documentary. I’m not big on award shows but I’m all for cats getting deserved recognition. Now let’s see if Davis and his team can keep making thought provoking flicks in the future.
