This whole quote is questionable. Not so sure Rihanna is making money for Def Jam believe it or not.  Rick Ross mentions leaving Def Jam in one his latest singles that Def Jam is ironically putting out and started and imprint At Warner Music Group.  Frank Ocean only came to fame after Def Jam refused to release his album and he put it out for free.  Jeezy got people excited performing the album he made 6 years ago.

I can’t front the Jay-Z/Kanye look is good, and the G.O.O.D. music franchise could be lucrative.  But if 50 is right about that 80 million in the hole point, it could be a tough rut to get out off in the 2011 music climate.

I don’t know what the f*ck they’re talking about. Def Jam is not broke, it’s on fire!! We just did a deal with Kanye’s G.O.O.D. Music and Big Sean’s album is a great success and will continue to garner a lot of attention. Kanye and Jay-Z’s Watch The Throne has the whole world buzzing. Jeezy got an album coming out and his show last night in NYC has the whole industry excited. Rihanna just ended her amazing tour of her amazing album. Frank Ocean is on the verge of super stardom. Rick Ross and so many other great artists are part of our incredible roster. Of course we are looking to maximize our potential and are in search of additional African-American leadership to take us to the next level. But, let me be clear, Def Jam is on fire.” – Barry Weiss Chairman/CEO of Island Def Jam and Universal Motown Republic via GG.

  1. lmao… what do you know about the industry dude.. honestly??? You just gonna take everything 50 say @ face value (no pun intended). Its past 2:00PM and there is no Dr Dre single or new headphones. Even though the figure is not true, 80 million in the hole for a record company is not that much… especially when you factor in all the catalogs they acquired over the years. 2nd off… rihanna is making more money for Def Jam than Nicki Minaj or Drake for YMCMB. Plus Big Sean is the new “it” nigga and his new single “Marvin Gaye and Chardonnay” is about to be a smash along with his other single “Dance.” The WTT tour is going to be like the Roc Da Mic tour all over again. Def Jam is #Winning G-Unit is Shawty-Lowing it right now => Sharpie goatees n all!!!
