Brandy, who was involved in a fatal car crash last December, may face charges for vehicular manslaughter. The charge carries a maximum sentence of one year in jail in addition to a $1,000 fine.

"The office is currently reviewing the case and determining whether the evidence warrants the filing of a misdemeanor charge of vehicular manslaughter," said California Highway Patrol spokesperson Nick Velasquez. He added that prosecutors couldn’t put a date on when they would make a definitive decision on the case.

As we reported earlier, Brandy was driving her 2007 Land Rover when she accidentally struck a 2005 Honda in front of her, which in turn crashed into a 1989 Toyota. The 2005 Honda, driven by 38-year old Awatef Aboudihaj, then spun sideways and struck the center divider. As Aboudihaj’s Honda came to a halt, it was pummeled by an oncoming 1988 Acura.  Aboudihaj was taken to a hospital, where she died of injuries.

Brandy has publicly expressed condolences to the victim’s family. Her publicist said Brandy wasn’t under the influence of drugs or alcohol when the crash occurred.

On a related note, the singer’s fans recently filed an online petition demanding that she be prosecuted for “taking an innocent life.” The petitioners go on to say that Brandy should Brandy should not be treated fairly on the strength of her celebrity status.” She should serve time for it or at least pay a fine. It’s wrong on so many levels and something should be done about it.”

  1. Well it was an accident, maybe her fault but i don’t think meant it. She is paying for it just knowing that she killed someone will haunt her for the rest of her life.
