According to BlackFilm.com, the biopic for the legendary hip-hop collective The Juice Crew, called “The Vapors”, is getting some heavyweight actors to get down with the film. Cuba Gooding Jr. has signed on to play Marley Marl, David Banner will play Biz Markie, and Idris Elba will play Fly Ty. Clifton Powell will play radio host Mr. Magic, Evan Ross will play MC Shan, Keke Palmer will portray Roxanne Shante’ and Jackie Long will play Big Daddy Kane.

The movie is being directed by first-time feature filmmaker Furqaan Clover and executive produced by Marley Marl, Roxanne Shante and Big Daddy Kane. Apparently the film is still looking for actors to fill the roles for other Juice Crew members Craig G, Tragedy Khadafi (aka Intelligent Hoodlum), Kool G Rap & DJ Polo, Masta Ace, TJ Swan, and Cool V and possibly KRS One.

For those unaware The Juice Crew was a collective of hip-hop artists formed by Marley Marl in the mid-eighties, similar to the Native Tongues in the late 80’s and The Diplomats in the 2000s. They were in the middle of the battles with KRS-One and Boogie Down Productions which was known as the “Bridge Wars” and with UTFO, known as the “Roxanne Wars” in the 1980s.
