jeterDerek Jeter has tied Lou Gherig’s record for hits in a Yankees uniform. The record–2,721–was matched by Jeter with a single in the seventh inning of last night’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays. The record had been held by Gehrig for 72 years, but now Jeter stands on top of that list with him, a list with legendary names such as Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle and Joe DiMaggio. Jeter also stole his 300th career base last night, making 9/9/09 an even bigger day to remember for the future hall of famer. Even if you dislike the Yankees (like me), you can’t help but applaud Jeter on his accomplishments, and the example he sets for all other players on the baseball field. Below is a video capturing his record tying hit. Congratulations Jeet.
