Doug Morris Back! Snags L.A. Reid To Head Epic Label Group

So the incestuous nature of the the dudes who run major labels and the record executives they employ continues.  Seems like one of Doug Morris’ first moves after bouncing Universal music for Sony music is to get his boy L.A. Reid back in the mix.  It’s looking like Reid will be running a restructured Epic label group that will consolidate Epic and Jive.  Apparently he is going to get the company to focus on releasing more “urban” material.  I mean this kind of means nothing to me.  The labels are still on some Goldman Sachs sh*t.  Let me know when these conglomerates get their quarterlies in the black and we can talk.  According to the Hollywood Reporter:

Sidebar: Yo L.A. can we put out Nipsey Hu$$le please?  I get the vibe the people who pull triggers over there have him on the shelf, and those people need to be fired.  That The Marathon tape had pure heatrocks on it, and you guys need to give neighborhood Nip a look.

In what is perhaps the music industry’s worst kept secret, THR has learned definitively that X Factor judge and former Island Def Jam chairman Antonio “L.A.” Reid is headed to Sony Music. He will take on the chairman title at the soon-to-be restructured Epic Label Group, which will encompass Jive Records and reunite Reid with two artists he discovered and developed: Usher and Pink.
