There is a sort of war stirring in regards to Drake’s breakout hit “Best I Ever Had” and who did/didn’t write it.  Kia Shine proclaimed via Twitter this week that he co-wrote the hit and owns 25% of the publishing.  He Tweeted some picture with him being presented with some Billboard plaques as well.

Drake’s retort was posted on his site earlier today that Kia is lying and talks about the origins of the song.  Here is the direct quote:

You can listen for yourself to the Lil’ Wayne song he is referring to here.  It sounds like he used the melody from Weezy in the beginning and a couple of lines out the song.  There is no dispute Kia Shine produced the track, but if that means he gets a quarter of the publishing from a totally different song seems like a stretch.

BMI and ASCAP are on some bullshit and are pulling all types of tricks out of their ass to make money in the face of a record industry as we know it that is dying. Its getting cold out there rappers! Bundle up for a cold winter and stack your chips.

Rappers just need to start taking it back to block…. More independent…
No artist is gonna make mid 2 late 90’s early 2000’s sales anymore man…
