It’s that TDE – Dreamville connection.
Two label imprints come to mind when thinking about the difficult commercial – artistic balancing act: J. Cole’s Dreamville and Kendrick’s TDE. Both focal artists are considered amongst this generation’s greatest lyricists, and their supporting casts are some of the industry’s most popular and sought after talent. However, where they truly shine isn’t necessarily at the top end—it lies within the more unknowns. Now, two of those lesser knowns, Dreamville’s EarthGang and TDE’s SiR, have united for the former’s track, “Underwater”.
Off of their latest project, Robots, released this past Friday, “Underwater” is one of the stronger cuts off of EarthGang’s latest EP—the second of a promised trilogy of releases (they dropped Rags in September). Both claiming a smooth, soulful style, this track allows the respective acts to complement one another through a similar artistry, while leaving just enough room for them to breathe individually. It’s funky, calibrated, and begs for your listen.
