Former Middle Weight Champion Vernon Forrest was shot and killed Saturday night in Atlanta. The police say that he had apparently was robbed and then engaged in a shootout. Last September, Forrest reclaimed his World Boxing Council title, beating an opponent 10 years his junior. He had a 41-3 career record with 29 knockouts. In 2002, he defeated “Sugar” Shane Mosley twice and was named Ring Magazine’s Fighter of the Year.
Forrest was shot 7 to 8 times in the back and one of the only witnesses who could identify the shooter was his girlfriend’s son, an 11-year-old boy who was in Forrest’s vehicle. He was known in Atlanta for his charity work and had ties to the hip-hop community, appearing in videos with Ludacris and Jermaine Dupri.
Here is a recent Tweet from Forrest that eerily tells his future:

Man I had a nightmare last nite I dreamt I come home and found 4 guys were breaking into my house. I pull my heater and it was empty they chased me and was about to shot me then I woke up. The first thing I did was get my heater and made sure it was loaded. That dream will not come true.
Damn!…. R.I.P.
