According to Billboard, who conducted an interview with Chance the Rapper, the Chicago emcee has a new free album on the way. It’s entitled Surf and was recorded with his band The Social Experiment. In addition to be a free album (much like his highly acclaimed Acid Rap) it’ll hopefully by the end of the year. According to Billboard, the record will also be “highlighting” the band’s trumpet player, Donnie Trumpet (aka Nico Segal). Cool beans.

In the Billboard interview Chance went on to call his Surf album as “the first Social Experiment project,” as opposed to flat-out calling it a solo effort. “The band has been backing me on a lot of the shows, so when you go to a Chance the Rapper show it’s billed as a Chance the Rapper show, and even though you bought a ticket for a Chance the Rapper show, you end up going to a Social Experiment concert, you know?” he told Billboard. And you get the full experience of the musicality of four seasoned players. It’s something different.” Last week, he and the Social Experiment released “No Better Blues”, which you may listen to here.

According to Chance he’s been working with artists such as Frank Ocean, Migos, Rick Rubin, and J. Cole, though he didn’t say if they would appear on the Surf album or any future projects. Surf will also feature collaborations with Francis Starlite from Francis and the Lights.
