Rappers are not the only ones keeping it real these days. A Vallejo hip-hop cop named Steve Darden, who crashed his cruiser into a house while chasing a suspect, plans on releasing a CD about his experiences as police officer.

Darden was helping another cop during the chase of a suspected stolen vehicle when he lost control of his own vehicle and rammed into a garage in the 300 block of El Dorado Street, according to police reports.

Sergeant Darden hopes that his upcoming CD, titled It’s Ruff Out Here, will inspire young people to stay away from trouble.

“My message on the CD is about respecting yourself, not selling yourself short, making plans for your life and achieving those goals,” Darden told the Times-Herald.

His music draws on tragic stories of crimes and homicides from cases he’s worked over the years.
