Cole hits fire with KOD.

J. Cole’s surprise album, KOD, was monumental for a variety of reasons. Aside from it being a suprise Cole album, the content dissected on Jermaine’s fifth studio album continued a necessary conversation in hip-hop: drug use and dependence in youth culture, and how are societal values are out of line. Well, it sounds like people are listening, as Cole has topped the Billboard 200 chart.

Coming in at number-one, KOD has moved about 400k first week units, with 174k being from traditional sales. This success has been supplemented by Cole breaking Spotify’s single-day streaming record, which was subsequently broken by Post Malone’s recently-released Beerbongs & Bentleys.

KOD reaching number one marks Cole’s fifth consecutive chart-topping album.
