iHipHop AdminJermaine Dupri recently appeared on NBC’s The Big Idea to discuss the secrets of his success. Dupri told host Donny Deutsch that he discovered his first group Kris Kross at a shopping mall.
Said JD: “The people in the mall [was] so magnetically drawn to them. I thought I was watching Nickelodeon or something…It was the appeal that they had with the ladies.”
From that moment on, the So So Def CEO was convinced that all Kris Kross needed was a hit rap record. “I felt like if they had a record to go with the look, it could be a bomb.” Kris Kross went on to sell 8 million records, thanks to the popularity of their smash single “Jump.”
