He’s worked with everyone from Black Thought, Guru, and C.L. Smooth to Mos Def, El-P and Aesop Rock, and now DJ Krush is telling his life story in a new 3-DVD documentary called “History of DJ Krush.” In Krush’s early life he was part of the Japanese mob, The Yakuza, but cut ties with the criminal underworld after seeing his friend get his finger cut off.
He turned his attention and passion to hip-hop after watching “Wildstyle”. He’s a pioneering DJ in Japan and started his solo career in 1992. During his career he’s released 10 albums and collaborated on many other projects. The documentary follows his career from recording his breakthrough album, “Meiso,” in 1995 to his 2006 world tour which includes a DJ set performed on a specially-constructed stage on the rooftop of a building in Tokyo. The 3-DVD set includes two documentaries and a collection of all of his videos. The DVD set will hit stores on September 18 and will head out on a nationwide U.S. tour to promote it.
