Lil Peep is not your prototypical rapper: he’s white, switches between differently colored hair that usually covers his “Cry Baby” forehead tattoo, and looks like he’d be more comfortable at a Nine Inch Nails concert than a Snoop Dogg show. However, this interesting aesthetic reflects his genre-bending music that has helped weave him into Hip Hop’s changing landscape. His latest album, Come Over When You’re Sober, Pt 1, melds differing styles—rap, emo, punk, alternative—into a sonically pleasing project, evidencing his astute musical command. Peep’s most recent track, “Avoid”, picks up where this album left off.

Joined by Wicca Phase Springs Eternal and Doves, “Avoid” is a melancholic track consistent with Peep’s previous work of expressing his emotions while exorcising his demons. The somber IVIVIVI and Smokeasac-produced track paves the way for his emotional dispelling, revolving around lost love. It’s for the emo fans as much as the rap ones.
