Tyler Perry is definitely raking in the money. His recent chapter in the life of Madea broke records this past weekend when it brought in over $41 million dollars at the box office making it the biggest opener in the history of Lionsgate Studios who have released all of Tyler Perry’s movies including Madea’s Family Reunion back in 2006. Madea Goes to Jail grabbed the attention of 34% of those going to the movies this last weekend in the country and with 55% in Atlanta checking it out. The character Madea who Perry plays himself is actually based around an Aunt of Perry’s who lives in his home state of Atlanta.
Perry opened his own movie studio last year in Atlanta, the first African American owned movie studios in the US; its opening attracted celebs such as Will Smith and long time friend Oprah Winfrey.
