February 2008 will be the two-year anniversary to producer J Dilla’s passing due to complications from Lupus. In an effort to give tribute and honor Dilla’s memory, Mos Def will perform with his Mos Def Big Band on January 21 at Ann Arbor’s Hill Auditorium in Michigan.

According to the Detroit News, Mos Def Big Band is an eight-piece brass ensemble that has previously performed at the Lincoln Center American Songbook Series and at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. This J Dilla tribute is being billed as a one-time-only performance.

"I know it’s going to be great," Dilla’s mother, Maureen Yancey told the Detroit News. "I will be behind anything that they do."

The show is being hosted by the University of Michigan’s University Musical Society and the U-M Office of Academic Multicultural Initiatives with tickets going for $25-$45. If you want to go, tickets go on sale at 9 a.m. Friday online at ums.org, by phone at (734) 764-2538 or in person at the League Ticket Office at 911 N. University Ave. on the campus of U-M.
