iHipHop AdminFor the last couple of weeks, MTV and MTV.com have been counting down who they think are the greatest hip-hop groups of all time. Their criteria was choosing groups with at least two emcees, so Eric B & Rakim, Boogie Down Productions or Gangstarr were ineligible. The hip-hop heads on the MTV staff each submitted their top 10 groups with each #1 pick getting 10 points, #2 pick getting 9 point and so forth.

The MTV News staff admitted that there were glaring omissions most notably the Beastie Boys. Other legendary groups missing from the list include the Geto Boys, De La Soul, and pioneering groups the Cold Crush Brothers, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious 5 and the Sugar Hill Gang. The MTV News staff will be publishing stories this week defending their choices as well as giving those left off the list and honorable mention.
