I guess lists are good for media outlets because they stir up controversy, and garner attention. That being said I feel like lists are retarded. Especially when it comes to the whacky world of hip-hop. It appears as if MTV selected a bunch of people with questionable opinions to come up with the 2010 Hottest MC list.
The problem with these lists is that they have to balance relevancy with who actually has talent. We live in a day an age where having lyrical talent is almost second hand to your image and brand. For example I bet the #1 artist on this list this year is Eminem. I mean he had the biggest selling album this year, so that makes sense right? Well not really. It might have sold the most, but I thought the album was pretty garbage. I would say that the hottest artist of the year was Rick Ross. But a lot of people would say that he is a fraud, and a disgrace to hip hop. My point is that it’s kind of all based on perspective. Plus a dude like Waka Flocka is poppin right now. Does that mean he is one of the hottest MC’s of 2010? While I think Waka is highly entertaining I don’t think it’s fair to call him a hot MC, considering he is more known for his ad libs as opposed to his lyrical content.
When it comes to this list, I just feel like no one really wins. Check a preview of MTV’s hottest MC’s of 2010 below.
