So Obama recently answered a question poised by The Chicago Sun-Times, Lynn Sweet, on racial profiling by police in America. While i’m sure this happens on a daily basis recently the arrest of, Henry Louis Gates Jr., a black professor at Harvard has brought the issue back into the limelight. Basically Mr. Gates locked himself out of his house, so he broke into his house. A neighbor called the police, and they ended up arresting him for disorderly conduct even after he provided the police with his drivers license proving his residency. Obama just kills it with his response as always.
- “Now, I don’t know, not having been there and not seeing all the facts, what role race played in that,” President Obama said. “But I think it’s fair to say, number one, any of us would be pretty angry; number two, that the Cambridge police acted stupidly in arresting somebody when there was already proof that they were in their own home; and, number three, what I think we know separate and apart from this incident is that there’s a long history in this country of African Americans and Latinos being stopped by law enforcement disproportionately. That’s just a fact.“
