Ouch! Game Goes In On Lloyd Banks’ Album Sales…

When he’s not begging for a G-Unit reunion, Game is trading words with his former crew via Twitter.  Lloyd Bank’s third album, The Hunger For More 2, debuted at #25 on the Billboard 200 this week (45,000 units sold), a significant drop from his sophomore album, The Rotten Apple (# 3 – 143,000), and his debut, The Hunger For More (# 1 – 433,000).  Much to Game’s chagrin, HFM2 did not debut in the Top 10 even with a large radio push and “Beamer, Benz or Bentley” in heavy rotation.

In a recent interview with Hot 105.5, Lloyd Banks asserted that Game was washed up, claiming, “It’s too late to cry over spilled milk. I would be interested to see if those same attempts to reach out to 50 Cent would be happening if he had a number one record on the radio.”

It’s hard for me to bite my tongue on this issue.  Yes, the Game’s last album sold 238,000 in its first week, but that was two years ago.  The industry and the public’s perception of certain rappers as relevant has changed quite a bit since 2008.  For all we know, Game’s long-delayed R.E.D. Album may not fare as well as The Hunger For More 2.  In all likelihood, it won’t.  Game doesn’t have a hot radio or street single despite releasing 5 songs to promote the album (“Krazy,” “Big Money,” “It Must Be Me,” “Shake,” “Ain’t No Doubt About It“).  Not that that’s the only indicator of album sales, but if his album was good on any scale, he wouldn’t be in the studio with Premo, revising it even though his album was ready for release and reviewed by Complex 7 months ago.  Besides, 45,000 units is impressive, especially for an independent release in a week where Kanye West, Nicki Minaj and Ne-Yo also dropped albums.

Enough with my rant…Game put out a remix to Dr. Dre’s first single from Detox, “Kush.”  He drops some fire over it and throws some jabs at Curtis.  Sounds official to me.
