el-4After a six-month hiatus, this writer has decided to bring back one of the most exciting columns iHipHop has to offer; the Precious Goods Column [Click here for past entries].

For those unfamiliar with it, now is your chance to catch up with the people who were, when it first began half a year ago.

Since it’s coming out of hiding, its only right that the first entry in its rebirth be a model that has had the Internet going nuts for quite some time now.

So here to set the standard for what’s to come is none other than urban model supreme, Elke The Stallion

And if you haven’t heard about her, chances are you’ve been living under a rock for your entire existence… So here we go, enjoy…

iHipHop.com: What’s new? I know you have a lot of things on your plate now, so fill us all in…

Elke: Well, first off, 2009 has been a blessing, I’m a mom now, and I have a new baby… [Laughs]

I launched StallionModels.com, and I started managing girls now because I’m not going to model forever…

Therefore, I want to pass the torch onto other girls, but still be involved…

iHipHop.com: So have you officially retired from modeling yourself, since you’re now running StallionModels.com, and are managing other girls? Or are you still going to do your thing on the side?

Elke: I’m still going to do my thing… I’m going to do my thing until I don’t know how long… [Laughs]

I guess until somebody tells me that I’m not cute enough anymore… But I’m going to keep going, for sure…

iHipHop.com: What type of qualifications does it take to be part of your stable, no pun intended—of models?

Elke: [Laughing]… I would like to work with girls of my caliber, meaning my body type… But I’m not going to shut a girl down that’s extremely exotic, and beautiful, but happens to be a little bit smaller or bigger than me…

So I pretty much want to have a good variety of girls… They have to be professional too, because it doesn’t matter how beautiful she is if she doesn’t go to her castings or to her job every week… I can’t work with people like that, so they have to be business oriented as well…

iHipHop.com: Speaking of that, do you find it difficult managing your own career, and now the careers of others as well?

elkeblue4medium1Elke: Well, sometimes I wish there were more than 24 hours in a day, but I have some good people that work with me on Stallion Models, so I’m not doing it all by myself…

But it will all work out for the positive, because I benefit from it of course, so I’m going to put my all into it, just like I put my all into my own career…

iHipHop.com: What do you think aspiring models do wrong when they’re trying to get discovered?

Elke: The problem that I’ve been seeing over the past few years is that girls are very desperate… The desperation to be in a magazine is bigger than the desperation to make money…

For me, it always was a business, and a moneymaking situation… I was never like, “I want to be in a magazine, and I don’t cared if I don’t get paid.”

I would say 95 percent of the girls in this industry, that’s all they’re worried about… So I DO NOT want to work with girls like that… For me, it’s about the money, and I don’t have time to waste…

So if you just want to be in a magazine, then you can go to one of these people who put girls in magazines, and take advantage of them…  But that’s not going to be me…

iHipHop.com: Talk about being a new mommy now? How would you say that’s changed your life?

Elke: It changed it DRAMATICALLY! I have a lot less time now… [Laughs] But it’s a blessing, and it was time for me to have a child… My career has been going well for me, so it was a good time to have a baby now…

iHipHop.com: Some women in the entertainment field are scared to take time out of their career to have children… That didn’t cross your mind?

Elke: It did pop into my head, but I was aware of the fact that it’s going to happen… But at the same time, I’m not getting any younger, so I don’t want to wait until I’m 40-years-old to have a child…

I always knew I wanted both, meaning I wanted a career and a baby, and I always thought I could do it all at the same time… So now I’m doing it all at the same time, and I’m pretty happy…

el_1__phixriHipHop.com: It seems like the modeling industry has changed from when you started to now… Do you feel as if anyone thinks like they can be a model right now?

Elke: It’s gotten worse… When I started, we had Buffie The Body, Esther Baxter, and Gloria Velez… Those were the main girls, and they didn’t really have a white girl for example like myself with my body type…

I think they had Coco at the time, who is Ice T’s wife, but she was only know as Ice T’s wife” back then…

But in the past 4-5 years, it’s changed dramatically… Every girl now wants to model, or be a model… They have a Myspace page, a Twitter page, etc…

The industry got bad because of the economy, there’s not a lot of money, and the budgets are lower… Plus with all the wannbe models popping up, it’s gotten pretty bad for a lot of the girls…

iHipHop.com: So with the economy being bad, is that the reason why we haven’t seen you in any recent videos? Or is that a part of your career you wanted to close the door on?

Elke: I didn’t really do a lot of videos to begin with… There were a few, like Outkast’s and D-12’s… It was cool for what it was, but I never wanted to just do that…

I always knew that the Internet was going to be the thing… When it started, it was all about the magazines, and now it’s all about the Internet…

Magazines go out of business, so I focused on getting my fan base onto the Internet with my website… My website is still going strong to this day… I started it in 2005, and now it’s about to be 2010, and it’s better than ever…

iHipHop.com: Earlier you talked about how everyone wants to be a model… So with that being said, have you found it difficult keeping your name in circulation with everyone popping out of the woodworks thinking that they can do what you do?

polkadotfish1sElke: Not really, because everyone is so different and unique, there shouldn’t be a problem keeping your name above water… Nobody is me; and I’m like nobody else…

If you stay in contact with your fans, and make sure you update your website, you’re going to have fans for life, and new fans are going to join… I’m just confident… I never feel like my name is going to be brushed under the carpet… [Laughs]

adriantattoo7smalliHipHop.com: [Laughing]… Last time we spoke, you were being featured on LA Ink [Click to watch episode], where you got the wings done on your back… After you did the show, did you get more recognition from people off the street?

Elke: There are always people who don’t know about you, so being on national television kind of brought me a new fan base…

So it was definitely good exposure, and I was featured twice on German TV, so I got a lot of fans over there too…
