To promote his tribute album, Q: Soul Bossa Nostra, industry legend Quincy Jones spoke to Rolling Stone about a variety of contemporary artists. The mood of the interview shifted when the interviewer prefaced a questions with statement, “Kanye West is similar to you in that he’s the producer everybody wants to work with in the last decade.” This somehow offended Jones, who went on to say, “No way. Did he write for a symphony orchestra? Does he write for a jazz orchestra? Come on, man. He’s just a rapper. There’s no comparison.“ Clearly flustered, Jones added, “I don’t think about him much. He’s a great rapper, but there are a lot of good rappers.”

I understand where Quincy is coming from; Kanye doesn’t play every instrument or write symphonies, but he’s in high demand and multi-talented. I’m guessing Quincy never heard “Be” or “Two Words” which features a full choir. Will this lead to an extra long Yeezy Twitter rant? We’ll see….
