Update: So I guess Soulja was making it up, but the only person with enough sense to deny the rumors was his publicist. According to TMZ:
Earlier this week, TMZ spoke with Soulja, a member of his management team named Shai Storm and Soulja’s assistant — who all verified Soulja dropped the cash on the private jet as a 21st birthday gift to himself.
In fact, Soulja even went on a radio show yesterday in Miami — after TMZ’s story posted — and when asked if he bought the plane, coyly told the DJ he was “G5 status” … but never said the story was false.
Now, Soulja’s “spokesperson” Greg Miller has issued a statement on behalf of the rapper … saying the “elaborate rumors” are “not true.”
Funny, because when our reporter spoke with Soulja earlier this week — and asked him directly, he responded, “Hell yeah … I bought it.”
Sadly, so did we.
Since Miller’s statement, TMZ has made dozens of calls to Shai Storm — but he hasn’t picked up. Storm did return a text message saying he was instructed that all media relations are now going through Miller.
This is retarded. He had to have financed this. No way he is liquid with $55 million. Plus let’s put this in perspective. I’m pretty sure that not even one of the artists on Forbes richest rappers list has their own private jet. I’m sure they fly private, but I doubt any own their own jet. Yet Soulja Boy does? Hey Soulja Boy made $6 Million in 2010. Good for him. But that isn’t private jet money. Someone get this guy on the phone with someone who actually knows how to manage money. According to TMZ:
Sidebar: Good thing Soulja already has that Jet Fuel Abusers shirt on deck!
Soulja Boy doesn’t know the meaning of the word recession — because TMZ has learned, the 21-year-old rapper is dropping $55 MILLION on a new private jet.
A member of Soulja’s management team tells us … the kid bought himself a G5 jet as a birthday present to himself this week.
The jet cost $35 mil … but that’s just the beginning. We’re told the birthday boy is dropping an additional $20 million to pimp out his ride with all sorts of cool stuff … like 12 custom Italian leather seats, flat screen TVs, 4 liquor bars, a special travertine tiled floor, and Brazilian hardwood cabinets.
We’re told S.B. is also gutting the in-flight lavatory — and replacing it with a giant, LUXURIOUS bathroom. Oh, he’s also giving the jet a custom paint job … to include his logo.
