Move over Brangelina! Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys don’t just adopt children – they adopt villages. Over the weekend, reports surfaced that Swizz and Alicia “adopted a village.” The humanitarian couple was recently in South Africa to film the before-and-after results of a Soweto villager who was given experimental medication to fight HIV. Swizz told VladTV, “[I was] just there to support [Alicia]. I didn’t know that my wife did so many things in Africa. Like her face is in pictures in hospitals that she’s funded.”
While in Soweto, Swizz had a chance to kick it with the locals and realized they were without resources such as running water and electricity. This prompted Swizz to speak with South African government officials and Keep A Child Alive. He and Alicia were eventually granted an approval for new land and container villages (modern homes assembled from shipping containers). In addition, Swizz’s efforts reduced the unemployment rate because villagers received government employment to build and repair their villages.
