It’s been over a month since Kendrick Lamar shook the Rap world to its very foundations with his verse on Big Sean’s “Control”. If you have been hiding under a rock and have not heard the song, Kendrick claims the title of King of New York while appearing to take shots at J. Cole, Big K.R.I.T., Wale, Pusha T, Meek Mill, A$AP Rocky, Drake, Big Sean, Jay Electronica, Tyler, The Creator and Mac Miller. Rappers from every section of the globe bolted to their Twitter accounts and their soundproof studio booths to respond to the Compton native’s jabs. Over Memorial Day weekend, Rhymesayers’ Soundset Festival returned to Canterbury Park to bring hip-hop to concertgoers in Minneapolis. The hometown favorite Atmosphere shared the headlining duties with Snoop Dogg, while Juicy J, Mac Miller, Tech N9ne, Brother Ali, Joey Bada$$, ScHoolboy Q and more also performed. The Downtown Music festival returned to New York CIty on May 10, 2013 to highlight a selection of buzzworthy artists from across the country. The evening started out at Element where Earl Sweatshirt, Ryan Hemsworth, and Antwon performed. The festivities continued at Capitale where Black Hippy was in attendance and ScHoolboy Q played an extended set. Once a year, Austin, TX transforms into the music capital of the world during the annual SXSW Music Festival. This year was no exception, as fans in attendance were able to experience countless live performances from sunrise to sunset each day, with numerous showcases and lively parties throughout the city.
