The veteran hip-hop journalist also salutes the young rapper for his bold decision to omit features from his new album Truly Blessed in the “features obsessed” era of rap. Chief Keef’s new mixtape Back From the Dead 2 appropriately arrives on Halloween and the 19-year-old handles the heft of the production (producing exactly 16 of the 20 tracks) on the mixtape. In addition to producing a majority of the tracks, Sosa doesn’t recruit many for features instead opting to do most of the work himself (Gucci Mane and Tadoe both appear on a track each). If you wanted that old Sosa then you should probably just stick to listening to everything preceding Finally Rich because Back From the Dead 2 may perhaps be his most experimental/left field effort yet. “Still screaming ‘Fu*k rehab’ right now!” proclaims a drowsy, nasally Chief Keef on his new track “In It”. And you believe him. Whether or not this track will appear on the much delayed, endlessly pushed back Bang 3 album is as good as anyone’s guess. But all we know from the recent tracks he’s shared is Keef is sounding as menacing and uncompromising as he did when we first heard him on Back from the Dead. Peep the track after the jump!

On August 13, 2014, Chief Keef took over The Attic in Hollywood, California to celebrate his 19th birthday. The event was hosted by Taz Arnold of TI$A and featured music by DJ Carisma. As Adrienne Samuels Gibbs of The Chicago Sun-Times reported, the event did not quite go off without a hitch as there were several altercations between Keef, his crew, and reported gang members. Nevertheless, the rowdy crowd overcame this and enjoyed the night. Click through this slideshow to see photos from that night’s events. All photos by Kyle Stuart.
