New Music: Lil Durk – “Industry”

After linking up with Detroit’s Dej Loaf for “My Beyonce,” Chi-Town’s Lil Durk returns to the streets with shots at the industry — a place Durk believes is full of phonies. Although “My Beyonce” found Durk cheery and clearly in good spirits, “Industry” has him seeing red, and — backed by Nito Beats’ slapping production — is surely fitting. Cormega and Large Professor teamed up for Mega Philosophy, a kind of manifesto on the music today and the wheres, whys, and hows of its significance. “Industry” in particular is a great lead-off to these themes, both praising the genre for its ascendant ethos and offering some criticism of its contradictions.
