The New Camp Clik is back in effect for freestyle demonstrations. CJ Fly, Dessy Hinds, Nyck Caution, T’Nah Apex, A La $ole, Dyemond Lewis, Swank Master Raw, Dirty Sanchez, Jab and Joey Bada$$ stepped out of a time machine to give an honorary session to the Old Heads they clearly respect.
There’s something to be said for a 19-year-old artist who has a sense of his place in time, and a sense of time in general. Joey Bad starts this video with “vintage footage” (if there can be such a thing for a teen rapper) and then transports himself into the antiquity of rap that he loves so dearly. He mighta translated even better on analog and VHS.
CJ Fly follows up “Sadderdaze” — one of our favorites from last week — with a Joey assist. This is smoother and a hint toward the overall feel of his tape Thee Way Eye See It. Get your Sunday listen on. Hat tip to HipHopEarly.com.
So much here. So much. Jay Electronica meeting the Pro Era crew in Croatia at a video shoot to tell Joey Bada$$ that his name rings bells in London. Then, if that wasn’t forceful enough, he advises him to ignore anyone ‘taking shots’ to bring him down. The rap world is aware, and they’re proud. Also, really fine women in Croatia.
Over Memorial Day weekend, Rhymesayers’ Soundset Festival returned to Canterbury Park to bring hip-hop to concertgoers in Minneapolis. The hometown favorite Atmosphere shared the headlining duties with Snoop Dogg, while Juicy J, Mac Miller, Tech N9ne, Brother Ali, Joey Bada$$, ScHoolboy Q and more also performed. Soundset also featured a car expo, a b-boy battle, and an outdoor skate park. Click through the slideshow to see photos from the entire event. All photos by Lucas Farrar / Far Fetched Future.
Joey Bada$$, Action Bronson, Ab-Soul, and Travis Scott go in over a Jahlil Beats instrumental for the first XXL Freshmen cypher.
