Video: Danny Brown – “Dope Song”

danny-brown-dope-song-header

Mr. Brown is making the entire music world pay attention to him and this album with the starkness of the Detroit drug culture. He doesn’t just celebrate it, or glorify it, he cautions against its effects and battles with its outcomes. Video courtesy Complex TV after the jump. (more…)

Video: Joell Ortiz – “Cheers From The Crowd”

He doesn’t need the cheers from the crowd, though his rhymes really warrant them. This plays like a fan tribute video from Mr. Ortiz. Feel thankful he is here for his own reasons.

Video: Tyler, The Creator – “Tamale”

We’ve entered Tyler’s “controversial” era. He always had a knack for the visual element of his work, but it seems like he’s trying to strike a chord with some off-color rhymes. Odd Future thrives off controversy. We’ll see how this one goes over.

Video: Mr. MFN eXquire – “ORBZ a.ka. Some Wise Quote Drake Never Said”

Mr. MFN eXquire has the longest name in rap, is a gentleman’s ODB, and his project Kismet has already revealed some gully tracks for mass consumption. This is his duet with Chance, he of the big buzz. It also has the longest name of a rap song.

Shootin The Gif: Why “Nosetalgia” Is Video Of The Year

kendrick-pusha-t

you wanna see a dead body? it turns out, they can’t kill kenny. even after calling out the ten-years-his-senior rapper, King Push, on “Control,” kendrick lamar and your favorite drug dealer’s favorite rapper still managed to produce one of hip-hop’s most powerful collabs in a Toronto minute. (more…)

Video: Kazzie – “Help Us”

Kazzie impresses with this simple but sober video about trauma. The Newark rapper might have hip-hop’s heart with more songs like this one.

Video: Cam Meekins “Body, Stress Pleasure”

Here’s the latest video to accompany a track from the whopping 54-track A3C Hip-Hop Festival compilation album, A3C Volume 3, which is in stores now. (more…)

Video: Starlito & Don Trip – “Caesar & Brutus”

Starlito and Don Trip impress with a narrative video about brotherly love gone sour. It’s a solid (if well-worn) trope about running an empire when (gasp) a lady comes between. Intriguing flows support the sometimes-filmic visuals from upcoming album Step Brothers 2.

Video: Drake Performs In New York At ALIFE

Champagne Papi performs at ALIFE and brings out Travis $cott and The Chef, Raekwon. Hat tip to NahRight for the post.

Video: Pusha T – “King Push”

It’s happening. Pusha T is releasing the videos from the My Name Is My Name project, and as he said in his own “Twitter rant” he doesn’t care about the numbers. He’s right not to, because Clipse/Pusha fans have long supported them without needing the validation of it being the most popular idea: the poetic hustler-turned-repentant-artist.

Big Sean Joins Derrick Rose For “All In” Event In Chicago

Big Sean met up with the last MVP not named LeBron James for an adidas-sponsored event to perform his song “Beware.” Derrick Rose explained how good he felt to be returning for another NBA season, and Big Sean added how great it was to be paired with legends. Buuuut, that’s pretty much the story of Big Sean’s career, like a rap Scottie Pippen minus the Hall Of Fame part. Hat tip to GWHH.

Video: Meek Mill Freestyle On FunkMaster Flex

He’s still a master of cadence, even if his lyric range is basically the same. The kid has endless flows. The a cappella style accentuates it.

Video: Jay Electronica Passes Torch To Joey Bada$$ In Croatia

So much here. So much. Jay Electronica meeting the Pro Era crew in Croatia at a video shoot to tell Joey Bada$$ that his name rings bells in London. Then, if that wasn’t forceful enough, he advises him to ignore anyone ‘taking shots’ to bring him down. The rap world is aware, and they’re proud. Also, really fine women in Croatia.

Video: Azizi Gibson “Band of the Hawk”

The second single from A3C Volume 3 comes from Los Angeles artist, Azizi Gibson.  ”Band of the Hawk” is a spaced out video fitting of the track from the buzzing Brainfeeder artist. (more…)

Video: Earl Sweatshirt’s “Doris” Release Show And Recap

The Cult of Earl is in full force, with kids wearing lippy masks in tribute to the young rhyming phenom. Something about this corny video almost diminishes the album it’s meant to advertise but not much could do that, ultimately. The reaction to Frank Ocean here, though, shows just how much icon-making is happening in the mills of Odd Futurism.
