The legal plot engulfing the internet upstart continues to thicken.

17-year-old rapper Tay-K 47 has enjoyed an explosive rise this summer thanks to his hit track, “The Race”. A wide breadth of rappers have endorsed Tay-K by trying their hand at remixing this track, including Lil Yachty, Lud Foe, Trill Sammy, Skippa Da Flippa, and many more. These co-signs ushered Tay-K from relative obscurity into a trending topic—that, and his contentious relationship with the law.

This past June, the Texas rapper was indicted on capital murder charges and his connection to other violent crimes, which directly inspired his fame-launching track that now sits at over 34MM YouTube views. “Fuck a beat, I was tryna beat a case / But I didn’t beat that case, bitch I did the race,” Tay-K raps in his matter-of-fact flow regarding his fugitive status. While he’s since been apprehended, the jury is still out on his future.

Yesterday, his lawyer announced that the judge presiding over the case has decided to try Tay-K as an adult, despite being only 17. His lawyer, the same man who represented Kodak Black, tweeted a statement that was reported by New York Times’ Joe Coscarelli saying that despite this seemingly negative news, the judge clarified that this would have no effect on his verdict.
