The Daily Dose

.

-I keep waiting for Lil Wayne to get back to those Tha Carter II, Dedication 2 & The Drought 3 levels of spit.  I just don’t think it’s going to happen.  Wayne is a super star, and is most definitely on his own dick.  It just pisses me off that once a rapper hits a certain level of mainstream success they make pop music and seem to lose the integrity of hip-hop artistry.  I’m sure Wayne is convinced that he is about to create some sort of an empire with Young Money, but I’m telling you right now that he is wrong.

.

Artists like Jae Millz, Tyga, and Gudda Gudda are completely expendable parts of the system.  The only reason they are even relevant is because Lil Wayne features them on his songs.  There was once  a time where major labels could trick fans into buying whack music, but those days are long gone.  The only way you can maintain a successful career in music is by actually being talented.  Sorry Jae Millz, but you’re fucked.

.

Then you have an artist like Drake.  I think Drake is phenomenal and represents a new breed of artists in hip-hop, except for when he does songs with one person.  Lil WayneDrizzy just seems to get sucked into major label hype of we must make a radio friendly hit so that we can get 16 year old girls to buy this substance-less music.  I think it’s this very thought process that is killing the music industry.  People used to make music you would listen to for years.  Now they seem to make music you listen to for 2 months at most.

.

Just listen to Drake‘s verse on today’s song, “Every Girl“, & “My Darlin Baby“.  Then listen to “Killer” & “Fear“.  Notice the difference?  When he raps with Wayne he talks about irrelevant stupid shit.  When he raps by himself he does it with a sophistication that I am yet to see another rapper match.  We now live in a world where music sales aren’t that important.  You’re brand is what really matters.  But the labels are desperate for cash so they want artist’s to sell their souls to the devil so executives can drive those S Class Mercedes, and cop bottles at the club.  Plus those designer clothes are expensive.  Gotta keep up appearances.  It’s important to me that you know that songs don’t really get played on the radio and MTV because that’s what people at those media outlets think is good.  It’s because the labels pay them millions of dollars to so.

.

Also this Nicki Minaj chick kind of pisses me off.  I know everything involving her gets tons of hits, but I have a question.  Are you checking her out because you think she is a dope artist or because you want to see what the slut is up to now?  I just don’t have respect for women who don’t have respect for themselves.  Particularly ones who profit off of degrading themselves.  I just think it’s sad, but what do I know.

Ok sorry for that diatribe but I had to get it out of my system.

-This 50 track is produced by Dr. Dre and is off of DJ Kay Slay‘s More Than Just A DJ project which hits stores 10/27.  I thought the song was pretty average.  Anyone else?

.

-People who don’t cop tracks with the names Styles P & Jadakiss on them should just be ashamed of themselves.  No shots at Sheek but these guys should honestly consider coming out with a project with just the two of them.  This track is from Styles‘ and DJ Green Lantern‘s The Green Ghost Project dropping on November 17th.  I will definitely be picking that one up.

.

-So word on the internet is that this Juelz track is the new single off his much delayed Born To Lose Built To Win album.  I guess it fits the “hit” record model.  Rapper with a R&B crooner hook.  So I guess everyone is down to put the fact Chris Brown repeatedly smashed Rihanna‘s face into a car window in the past.  He has been paying his debt to society.

.

-It’s Gucci…  I like this track.  I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again I fuck with Gucci.  I think I may actually own all of the cd’s he’s put out.  You know those silly pieces of plastic with music on them that record companies try and sell?

.

Ghostface‘s The Wizard Of Poetry hits stores September 29th.  You might want to pick that one up.  Interview coming soon.

.

Playaz Circle’s Flight 360: The Takeover also hits stores September 29th.  Interview also coming soon.
