There was a time when hip-hop represented counter culture as opposed to pop culture.  This is a documentary on the Lower East Side of Manhattan in New York City, specifically how it was documented by photographer/filmmaker Clayton Patterson.  This may not be about hip-hop, but it is hip-hop.  Not sure if that makes sense.
