The perfect way to start your week.

This past weekend, fan favorite The Weeknd took to frequent collaborator’s, Drake, OVO channel to debut a new single with familiar content: his remix to R. Kelly’s 1995 hit, “Down Low (Nobody Has to Know)”.

In classic Abel fashion, he controls the smooth, melodic production enchantingly with his sultry voice that never fails to impress. Weeknd’s ostensibly perfect flow seems to always depart the listener from reality, relocating them to an ambient space where personal issues make way for only hope and prosperity. He’s a transformative presence. Hopefully, this track represents more than just an additional Weeknd song, and that the macro narrative looming in the background can become an actualized reality.

Seeing how he debuted the single on Drake’s platform, it’s not crazy to think—and hope—that some semblance of a collaboration is in the works. Considering that Drake has been waving at Abel quasi subliminally through Instagram comments, perhaps “Down Low” further implies that we will be seeing these two names cohabitate track listings in the near future.
