Video Dose

EDITOR:  So in line with our audio dose articles that come out bi-weekly, we’ll be dropping a video dose every couple days, highlighting some of the more interesting videos that have come out.

We dig Chiddy Bang over here at ihiphop.  They definitely have their own sound and make cool videos.  This is their newest one, “Dream Chasin,'” which I think is off their upcoming release, which is untitled as-of-yet to my knowledge, dropping in August.

Fred The Godson’s “So Crazy” a classic rap video.  Hot girls dancing, the ‘outside the bodega’ shot, the famous cameo, the obligatory street sign shot to rep your hood, all that good stuff.  It’s just a good video for a dope song from an artist who people need to recognize.

L.E.$ is a dope lyricist, and is definitely on the rise.  If you haven’t yet coped his mixtape The Beautiful Struggle I really suggest you do.  It’s a really incredible mixtape and the production value is very high.  The song “A Story 2 Tell” is told beautifully with this video.

The ILLZ is quickly becoming one of my favorite new rappers.  He is crazy talented and has an actual vision as to how he wants to promote his art.  The concept for this video is best be described by the filmmaker himself:

Synopsis by Filmmaker, Kristopher Rey-Talley:

When The ILLZ approached me about the “In Between Video series”, I was struck by the simple brilliance of it all. Releasing video and song simultaneously, as one piece of content, was a bold and strong move. I signed on immediately, and within a few days, we began shooting the first few videos. Simple, often low concept, but brimming with ILLZ insistence on cinematic imagery.

With “Dreams of Life & Beth”, I decided to go with a very cold, morbid look. The song is introspective and haunting, and I wanted to convey that through a simplistic set of visuals. Shooting on the Manhattan bridge at 5:30 am, we got that clean ambient light, and complete desertion. Everything was shot on long lenses, creating a sense of deep space and complete loneliness. The video is a mood piece, low on concept but high on artistry and emotion. It is but the first chapter in a varied, complex and beautiful set of upcoming videos, one unlike that of any artist I’ve worked with thus far.

If you don’t know Laws, then this is a great introduction.  Dude is a monster, and you should definitely keep your ears open for more music from him.  He does this classic Pharcyde track justice with his own spin, and brings a dope visual along with it.  His album “5:01 Overtime” drops July 20th and is brought to you by production powerhouse J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League.

O.D.B., Fatlip, and Karen O with N.A.S.A……This video is crazy…that’s all I’m gonna say.  Songs dope too, but definitely an acquired taste.
