Drake is a multitalented star. Clearly, he’s one of our generation’s top musicians, evidenced by his keen hit-making ability and cultural influence. He’s also a strong actor, as his believable paraplegic character from Degrassi introduced the world to Aubrey Graham, and he recently announced shelving his music career momentarily in favor of his Hollywood return. But Drake is also an astute business man—clearly apparent in his music—and has been capitalizing on that skillset with his whiskey brand, Virginia Black Whiskey. In a recent ad campaign, Drake combined all of these skills, plus some self-depreciation, to produce a hilarious spot featuring his father, Dennis.
Set to his More Life track “Passionfruit”, Drake locks eyes with a sultry women, suggesting a promising night for Toronto’s megastar. However, she curves him in favor of his father, leaving Drake with embarrassment, his thoughts, and two glasses of Virginia Black Whiskey. It’s a huge reason why we love Drake: his ability to poke fun at himself heightens his relatability despite his obvious outsized star status.
