Opening the second month of 2011, Warner Music Group is reporting losses in the first fiscal quarter as sales declined in all aspects except digital business (which is up 2%).  Digital sales haven’t offset the overall losses in business, which stems from the fact that physical sales continue to decline.  However, the Wall Street Journal reports that Warner’s “stock has gained about 20% this year.”  That’s not much of an increase, considering WMG posted a loss of $18 million during the last quarter of 2010.

Despite music industry perils, Simon Cowell is ready to offer a $5 million recording contract to the winner of his latest reality show, X-Factor.  Cowell describes the show as a ‘higher stakes’ version of American Idol.

This weekend marks the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards.  Eminem, Cee-Lo Green, B.o.B, Bruno Mars, and Usher are scheduled to perform.  The Grammys airs Sunday at 8 pm ET on CBS.
