By Quibian Salazar-Moreno If you caught the broadcast of VH1’s Hip-Hop Honors Monday night, you may have noticed A Tribe Called Quest how thin group member Phife Dawg looked. It’s well-known that Phife has suffered from diabetes and even refers to himself as the “funky diabetic”, but in the last several it got worse, but now he’s on the right track to feeling healthier. “For the last 3 yrs I’ve been a dialysis patient,” Phife told VH1’s blog. “The first two years I was on peritoneal dialysis, which caused me to gain a great deal of weight. For the last seven months I’ve switched over to hemodialysis, which has caused me to lose weight and has me feeling a whole lot better. Most people aren’t used to seeing me at this weight. Initially, I weighed too much for my size and height and now I’m where I need to be.” Phife has also found a potential kidney donor in his best friend and manager Rasta Root and hopes for a kidney transplant soon to get off the dialysis treatment.

By: Rizoh BET founder Robert Johnson has added a car dealership joint to his long list of business ventures. Johnson teamed up with automotive dealer Steve Landers and Mack McLarty, former chief of staff for President Clinton, for the deal. Johnson is expected to contribute about 60% of the capital needed to fund the business. Toyota, Ford, Jeep, Scion, and Chrysler are some of the brand names that will be available from the RLJ-McLarty-Landers Automotive Partnership. Johnson is no stranger to business moves of this magnitude. The African-American billionaire already owns an NBA team, a film company, a fleet of hotels, and financial institutions. Ethnic minorities constitute a mere 5% of the 41,000 care dealerships in the United States.

By: Rizoh Many of us have no trouble recalling how many bedrooms and bathrooms are in our home. Not Mar Mariah Carey. The 37-year old singer’s New York residence is so large that she doesn’t know how many bathrooms she has. Glamour magazine asked Carey how many bathrooms she has in her 12,000 sq. ft. apartment. Her response? “I don’t know! Do you really want me to try and think about it?” The R&B diva admitted that she has an entire bathroom dedicated to “Hello Kitty.” And when you’re as rich as Carey, you can also afford to devote a 3,000-square foot closet to your clothes, in addition to a separate room just for lingerie.
By: Rizoh Jermaine Dupri recently appeared on NBC’s The Big Idea to discuss the secrets of his success. Dupri told host Donny Deutsch that he discovered his first group Kris Kross at a shopping mall. Said JD: “The people in the mall [was] so magnetically drawn to them. I thought I was watching Nickelodeon or something…It was the appeal that they had with the ladies.” From that moment on, the So So Def CEO was convinced that all Kris Kross needed was a hit rap record. “I felt like if they had a record to go with the look, it could be a bomb.” Kris Kross went on to sell 8 million records, thanks to the popularity of their smash single “Jump.”
By: Hot Gossip Gal Yeah he has finally admitted to being the father of Sarah Chapmans baby, the chick living down in Atlanta that Kim tried to air out. Only took him 18 months. Should have gone on Maury if a paternity suit was taking that long.
By Quibian Salazar-Moreno For those hoping that the New Jersey Nets would be playing in the “Roc-A-Wear Arena”, looks like it’s not going to happen. The New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority have given the naming rights of the Continental Airlines Airlines to clothing company Izod. Continental Airlines was paying roughly $1.3 million a year to have their name attached to the arena and Jay-Z was willing to do the same. The arena will now be called the Izod Center. No worries though. The Nets will make a move to Brooklyn after the 2008-2009 season and Jigga will have a chance to buy the naming rights to the new arena being built in the city.
By Quibian Salazar-Moreno While haters continually attack the music of Ludacris, others are recognizing the good and giving him rewards. The National Runaway Switchboard (NRS) have awarded Ludacris and The Ludacris Foundation the 2007 Spirit of Youth Award for his song “Runaway Love” and the work his charity does with the NRS. "Since Ludacris and The Ludacris Foundation have been involved, we have experienced a 50 percent increase in calls to our hotline, and the number of visitors to our Web site has increased more than 60 percent," said Maureen Blaha, NRS executive director. "I am extremely happy my association with the National Runaway Switchboard has had a positive impact on reaching out to runaways and potential runaways. When I wrote the song, I wanted young people to know running away from their problems is not the answer and that they did not have to face every problem alone," said Ludacris. The National Runaway Switchboard, established in 1971, serves as the federally-designated national communication system for homeless and runaway youth.
By: Hot Gossip Gal Kay Slay Beefing With His Strip Club Buddy Ok so he has no beef with Dre all of a sudden, but he now has beef with Busta. What this translates to is..Kay dissed Dre, Busta who is signed to Dre got a telling off internally and told Slay to check himself and now Slay is mad at Busta for siding with Dre. What do you think? Slay stands united with Pap though…well yeah I mean someone has to I guess..but on the real..Slay be frothing at the mouth about a lot of people lately..including his own artists so its like whatever Jay Z and Beyonce are Engaged? Damn I am so so tired of this..but rumor has it that there are a couple of mentions on the up and coming American Gangsta Album where Jay quotes ‘Beyonce is the Fiancee.’ Ok so it might be true, but on Kingdom Come I remember people hitting me after Lost Ones broke saying they had broke up..so not true…its called creativity. Damn I just have a feeling that ‘Beyonce is the fiance’ will become as popular as ‘I am the Mike Jordan of Recording’.
By Quibian Salazar-Moreno After making moves on Koch Records for the last couple of years, Dipset capo, Jim Jones is making a move to a major label. Jones is now a part of the Columbia Records roster and is planning on dropping his debut or the label in early 2008. "It’s a 50/50 joint venture with Columbia for my production company as well, Jones Family productions," Jones told Billboard. "Shout to Rick Rubin for believing in my artistry and Kyambo ‘Hip-Hop’ Joshua for being my partner in this process. Shout to Koch Records as well, because I broke a lot of ground with them and they gave me my own lane. " Jones first single, “They Don’t Love Me Anymore,” will drop in the next couple of weeks with a video. As far as Dipset Crew and Cam’Ron, Jones said nothing has changed. "We started Dipset to build a brand," Jones said. "And whether we’re at different labels or separated from each other, it’s all the same brand, Dipset. We are brothers and brothers do fight. [Cam'ron is] not on mars — he’s cooling out. I guess he’s recording. This is what he usually does when he’s recording. So this is nothing unusual."
By Quibian Salazar-Moreno Next week, VH1 will air “Gotti’s Way,” a reality show about Irv Gotti and the come back of his label, The Inc. (which he’ll change back to Murder Inc.). In an interview with Marilyn Beck and Stacy Jenel Smith, Gotti said he wants to show the world who he really is and he’s really a cool dude. "You got to realize that I never was tried for anything in my life (before),” he said. "To go in there facing 20 years against the federal government, it was a very enlightening experience. It made me realize who is really with me in life. I don’t want to have to go through that again to realize it, but at the same time, it made me open my eyes. When I was going through it, it stripped me of working because no one would come near me with a 10-foot pole. It put like a cloud over my head, and no one would do business with me. Now that it’s over, it’s like I’m back in business." The show will also showcase Ja Rule’s return to the music scene and Gotti working with pop star Vanessa Carlton and R&B singer Lloyd. Look for the show’s premiere on October 15 on VH1.
