By: Rizoh Russell Simmons has ditched his position as head of Phat Fashions. The hip-hop impressario started the company in 1992 with the launch of the Phat Farm fashion line. Phat Fashions includes Phat Farm (men’s line) and Baby Phat (women’s brand). Kimora Lee Simmons, Baby Phat president and creative director, will replace Russell as creative director for Phat Fashions in addition to her current responsibilities. “Kimora’s ability to create the Baby Phat brand universe from a simple tee shirt on the runway over 10 years ago and turn it into a multi-million dollar global business today — is truly an amazing feat in today’s mercurial fashion world,” said Robert C. Skinner, Jr., Kellwood chairman, president and CEO. “We believe her innate sense of style, extensive fashion background, and her gift to mesh unique trends that resonate with her core audience is readily transferable to the men’s Phat business. She will have the oversight of the creative direction for both the Baby Phat and Phat Farm family of brands. Her business savvy and understanding of the Phat Fashions’ brands and consumer following are very valuable to the company as we continue to build the aura of Phat worldwide.” In a separate statement, Russell Simmons announced that he’s leaving Phat Fashions to move on to other ventures. “I have enjoyed my association with Kellwood over the last three years. We have accomplished much during this short period of time—and I leave the division and the brand in great hands. There are so many things I want to achieve, and this is the appropriate moment for me to move on to my next business venture.”
By Will “Deshair” Foskey Here at HipHopCrack.com, we’ll do whatever it takes to ‘Make It Work’ all ‘Because of You’. And while you’re ‘So Sick’ of our competitors, we brighten up your day ‘When You’re Mad’. HipHopCrack.com is going to do us, so we suggest that you ‘Do You’. Any diehard Ne-Yo fan would know that I just incorporated a few of hit R&B hits into the first paragraph. For those that allowed for it to fly over their heads, start from the top until you catch up. Ne-Yo is currently one of the busiest entertainers in the Music Industry today. So when you’re lucky enough to catch the Las Vegas born, songwriting phenom in between his busy schedule; in this case, ten minutes after he woke up in the morning, you have to be ready when your phone rings. You want you’re exclusives; we have your exclusives… What do you believe was the best story you’ve told so far through music? Ne-Yo: I don’t think that I’ve told that story yet. There are feelings that are going on in my life that I’m still trying to figure out how to trim it down to 3 minutes and 30 seconds. What are the odds of ‘Make it Work’ being the next single off of your album? Ne-Yo: Since ‘Do You’ is such a slower-mid, we’re probably going to go with something a little faster. ‘Make it Work’ is definitely going to be a single; I just don’t feel that it will be the next one. It’s either going to be ‘Can We Chill’ or ‘Go On Girl’. Through my research on your influences, I was a bit thrown off. You’re quoted that Sammy Davis Jr. and Prince played a huge part in your growth as an artist. But when you open your mouth or perform on stage, people often compare you to Michael Jackson. Can you make sense of this? Ne-Yo: Yes, I can. I looked up to Prince as a Musical God, because there’s nothing the man can’t do musically. I looked up to Sammy Davis Jr. because of his overall swag. Sammy Davis Jr., glass eyeball and all was a cool, cool cat; he was electric on stage. As for the Michael comparisons, it came from me literally studying Mike and I’m not talking about his dance moves. I can dance, but it has never been my forte’. When I was learning how to see, I hated the tone of my voice because it was nasally and thin. My mom used to listen to cats like Billy Ocean, Donnie Hathaway and Sam Cooke; singers with these rich, smokey voices. That was what I wanted to sound like, but I didn’t have that (richness). So my mom gave me Michael Jackson’s “Off the Wall” album and Stevie Wonders “Hotter Than July” album. She told me to study both albums back and forth and I would become a better singer because of it. So that’s what I did. I knew “Off The Wall” frontward and backwards. And she was right; I became more comfortable with my own voice. When you’re name is brought up, longevity is not too far behind it. How do you feel about the fact that many of your fans who love you now, also believe that you will be the artist that they will grow old still loving? Ne-Yo: Man, it’s a beautiful feeling. I believe that this is the one thing that every artist absolutely strives for. Every artist wants to be around for as long as they can be. I’m trying to have U2’s career. They’ve been at the highest level spanning for decades, making great music and selling out stadium after stadium and all of that; it’s a beautiful thing. I guess that if I just keep doing what I’m doing, I’ll be alright.
By: Hot Gossip Gal Word in Hoellywood is that Lil Kim isn’t just getting it from Ray J. Word is Jamie Foxx (yeah the same Jamie Foxx that is supposed to be gay according to some unknown Publicist trying to make some money) has been caught out and about with the Queen B over there on the West coast recently.

By Quibian Salazar-Moreno According to Billboard, Missy Elliot has signed an endorsement deal with Doritos chips to promote their new flavor, Doritos Collision. In a commercial that will air on Sept. 17, Missy is working on a new track and then stops to snack on Doritos Collisions chips. Because of the two different-tasting chips in the same bag, Missy is inspired to make a song with two different styles. She then creates a hip-hop track with a country feel. "The whole idea of the mash-up is so prevalent and popular in music today," Elliott’s manager, Mona Scott of Violator Management, told Billboard. "It’s so Missy. And the fact that the campaign takes place in a studio means that Missy remains in her element, which makes the whole thing authentic." Fans of Missy can visit SNACK STRONG PRODUCTIONS and create their own “mash-up” using Missy’s track from the commercial. Mixes can then be posted on the gallery and the best five mixes will win prizes that have yet to be announced.
By: Hot Gossip Gal Not once but twice has Jay Z been in this place when cops have raided it. The Box is an upscale sex club for celebrities and has an extensive list of patrons from all walks of life and all fields of entertainment, business and fashion. It is literally the place where the A list go to get their freak on and their rocks off. Anyhow turns out Jay got away without being frisked like other members who were present. Jay was supposed to be their in May when it got raided because of something to do with a liquor license. Well maybe he and B have look but don’t touch rule.
By: Rizoh The war on hip-hop culture has suffered another blow, with Atlanta city officials proposing a ban on baggy pants that reveal boxer shorts or thongs. The proposal, sponsored by city councilman C.T. Martin, would make it illegal to sag your pants under city law. But the ordinance will is not geared towards just males. The proposal would also make it illegal for women to show the strap of a thong beneath their pants and showing bra straps in public. Martin hopes to hold hearings and push for the proposal through churches and community organizations. If the ordinance passes, a penalty in the amount of a fine would be determined. Opponents of the proposal say that it will fail because it perpetuates racial profiling. A similar ordinance has already passed successfully elsewhere. Earlier in June, the town of Delcambre, Louisiana passed an ordinance that fines offenders up to $500 or up to six months in jail for exposing sagging pants in public.
By: Rizoh Curtis called in to Shady 45 a couple days after the historic Screamfest show that saw him grace Madison Square Garden stage alongside Kanye, Diddy, Jay-Z, and T.I. Following in the footsteps of Beanie Sigel, 50 poked fun at both Pharrell and Kanye for their fashion style. “He can be my bear,” said Curtis, referring to Kanye’s trademark College mascot logo. When asked what he makes of his competition with Kanye, 50 was a bit more careful. “He [Kanye] ain’t about that. He don’t want no competition. You’d be a sucker bringing competition to someone who don’t want it. Both Kanye and 50 Cent are on the cover of the new issue of Rolling Stone magazine. “We shot the cover the day before the Madison Square Garden show,” commented 50.
By: Hot Gossip Gal Diddy is having problems convincing those good folks out in the Hamptons to allow him the chance to flaunt his wealth and woo his party goers at his notorious all white event. Turns out Sean isn’t getting permission for his Gucci inspired firework display. How does a fashion designer inspire fireworks? Well whatever it ain’t going down this year Diddy, the folks ain’t feeling $100,000 worth of pyrotechnics out on the island.

By Quibian Salazar-Moreno After last year’s album, “Laugh Now, Cry Later”, quick appearance and then disappearance, it looks like Ice Cube is digging himself deeper into the movie side of things. According to Variety, the rapper has signed on to produce and star in “Comeback.” Based on a true story, the film follows a former high school football star (Cube) who takes his niece under his wing as she becomes the first female quarterback in Pop Warner football history. The 11-year-old QB, Jasmine Plummer, led her team to the Pop Warner tournament, and became the first female to play in the tournament’s 56-year history. Cube is also developing a remake of Welcome Back Kotter and Tough Love, which is a story inspired by the life of former New England Patriots player Tebucky Jones. Fred Durst, Limp Bizkit frontman, is in talks to direct “Comeback.”
By Quibian Salazar-Moreno Season one of the “Ego Trip’s White Rapper Show” was a success in ratings, even though the actual rappers competing left something to be desired. But because of the success, apparently season two is on its way. According to Rollingstone.com, however, there’s a catch. It’ll actually be a spin-off where the show will actually search for the next female rapper. There are no further details about the show or whether MC Serch will be back a White House in Bronx yelling at a bunch of wannna-be’s. VH1 will be holding open auditions and casting calls on August 25 in Chicago and then Philly, Atlanta, Miami, and Los Angeles in the coming weeks.
