By Quibian Salazar-Moreno Seems like the longer Andre 3000 and Big Boi stay solo, the farther apart they become, making a real Outkast album (not a soundtrack or two solo album packaged as one) coming to fruition tougher to see. While Dre is busy doing his Class of 3000 cartoon, Big Boi is now getting down with the Atlanta ballet. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Big Boi will perform on stage with the ballet for a new original work in April 2008. There are no details on what his involvement will entail, if he actually do some dancing or if he’ll just be off to the left of the stage spittin’ some rhymes. Big Boi will work with choreographer Lauri Stallings and with folks from his Purple Ribbon Entertainment. Planning is set to begin this week. In other Big Boi news, he just finished of filimng, Who’s Your Caddy?, a comedy that follows an Atlanta rap mogul that tries to join a conservative country club in the Carolinas but he runs into fierce opposition from the board President- but it’s nothing that he and his entourage can’t handle. Big Boi will star as C-Note alongside Terry Crews, Tamala Jones, James Avery and Lil Wayne. No relase date has been set.
By: Hot Gossip Gal Turns out Monica found her intended, Rodney Hill who is also father of her son in bed with some stripper. I heard he had been dumb enough to bring the chick back to the crib too…not sure if that is true but anything is possible. She also put on blast mediatakeout.com for commenting on the way which she dresses her son. Not a woman to piss off right now it would appear.
By Quibian Salazar-Moreno The documentary film, “The Hip-Hop Project”, has been getting excellent reviews ever since it screened last year to limited audiences. Produced by Queen Latifah and Bruce Willis, the hindrance on the film’s release was due to an R-rating it was given by the MPAA for language. Even though the film drops 17 ‘f-bombs’, director Matt Ruskin and the film’s subject, rapper Chris "Kazi" Rolle, appealed the rating and asked for a PG-13 rating. They won that appeal based on the fact that the flick ‘is for the children.’ "We decided to appeal the R rating to allow teenagers access to see this film because they are the ones who need it most," Rolle told The Hollywood Reporter. "After years of working with teens, I know you have to reach them when they are young. Just as I didn’t have a parent to take me to the movies when I was a teenager, many of the young people who would benefit most from this film would have been denied access if the R rating stood." According to the Hollywood Reporter, Ruskin told the board, "This motion picture is a call to end the destructive forces of violence, misogyny and criminality that dominate the music our children are listening to.” The film follows the once-homeless Chris "Kazi" Rolle as he helps a group of poor New York teens deal with their frustrations by making a hip-hop album. "Project" details their four-year journey, that included studio time taken care of by Willis and Russell Simmons.
By Quibian Salazar-Moreno By now you’ve seen the video of Eve getting arrested after her car accident and put into a squad car while her homeboy was yelling at the camera man, but apparently the good stuff was going down at the station. According to the New York Daily News, actor Sean Penn showed up at the station trying to give Eve a hand. "He offered to bail her out," a friend of Eve told the NY Daily News. "Eve said, ‘Thank you, but no.’ The paparazzi were already gathering outside. Sean said, ‘Let me leave before this becomes something bigger than it is.’" Eve bailed herself out with a $30,000. She still totalted her gold Maserati and has to be back in court on May 17.
By: Hot Gossip Gal Well the word on the street is that Busta went a lil OTT with the spending when he signed to Dre and Aftermath…now obviously album sales weren’t as anticipated and now that he has maxed out those cards he is kinda broke. Remember he walked out of a diner with an entourage of about 25 people last year without paying? Looks like he might be doing it again. But I heard a whisper that he owes money to people who are not necessarily the type of people you want to owe money too.
By: Rizoh T-Pain (real name Faheem Najm) was arrested in Miami after throwing a tantrum onstage. According to sources, the Konvict Records artist was asked to cut his performance short at a Bayfront Amphitheater event, because of time constraints. His music was eventually yanked after he allegedly declined to conclude the set. Attendees disclosed that T-Pain was arrested amidst the brouhaha that ensued. It’s still unclear what he’s being charged with. Just last week, a meddling Wikipedia editor altered T-Pain’s page to read that his stage moniker was short for Testicular Pain. (The nasty remarks were later removed.) It’s hard out here for a rappa-ternt-sanga after all. CLICK HERE TO READ ARTICLE
By: Rizoh While the hip-hop community was entangled in a debate about the social responsibility of rappers, the Roots’ co-founder Ahmir “?uestlove” Thompson was busy trying to convince the DEA that he didn’t steal his own money. ?uestlove writes in his blog that he was recently held and questioned by airport authorities in Buffalo, on his way back from an Australian gig. The Grammy-winning musician raised some red flags because he was wearing a “Rastafaria hat” and carrying a stash of cash collected from deejaying gigs from around the world. “I’m sitting there like how am i gonna convince these guys that this dude with 30 dollar old navy jeans (white boy sh*t) and a 3000 dollar louis bag (n***a sh*t) and 5 figures in cash (white boy sh*t) and a coach seat (n***a sh*t) and a story of stadiums sold out across the world (n***a sh*t) but can’t name a hit song of his (white boy sh*t) (and what the hell is you doing in buffalo of all places (white boy question) followed by my "shrug" (n***a response). add on top of that my cd collection: the sly and the family stone box set and ladies of the canyon (joni mitchell) what kind of mofo is this? And 6 books all of connundrums and riddles? Something ain’t right here. It took another half hour before the DEA came and questioned me all over again.” ?uestlove described the encounter as the single most embarrassing moment in his life. CLICK HERE TO READ ALL
By: Hot Gossip Gal Oh man someone is really trying to discredit my boy. A tape was floating around the internet, you know the special kind that Ray J and Kim starred in and it was supposed to star Mike. Like he stated on the record the dude in the flick had no tattoos and Mike has plenty of those and really Mike don’t get down like that. But in reality, why would anyone think that people would want to watch this…isn’t it the chicks that are the leading ladies in these flicks? I just don’t see people commenting on Mike’s skills in the bedroom like they would in the studio. Pointless and so unnecessary.whoever put that shit out should be ashamed of themselves. America’s Most Bi Top Model She has been linked to Kimora and after grabbing Rosie O Donnells (yuk) breast on The View the other day, perhaps there is some truth in the fact that the ‘forehead’ is playing on both teams. But why anyone would want to grab a hold of Rosie O Donnell is one of those things I try not to dwell on.
By: Hot Gossip Gal Well what do you know, the Dips had to hire PR giants 5WPR to deal with the backlash of Cam’s appearnace on 60 Minutes the other night. Hmmmm wow who would have thought Cam would put his foot in his mouth? Such a silly thought. But gotta give 5WPR their props they did a great statement for ole Cam, sounds nothing like him. The power of the pen "In 2005, I was a victim of a violent crime. I was shot multiple times without provocation by two armed men who attempted to carjack my vehicle. Although I was a crime victim, I didn’t feel like I could cooperate with the police investigation. Where I come from, once word gets out that you’ve cooperated with the police that only makes you a bigger target of criminal violence. That is a dark reality in so many neighborhoods like mine across America. I’m not saying its right, but its reality. And it’s not unfounded. There’s a harsh reality around violence and criminal justice in our inner cities. "But my experience in no way justifies what I said. Looking back now, I can see how those comments could be viewed as offensive, especially to those who have suffered their own personal tragedies or to those who put their lives on the line to protect our citizens from crime. Please understand that I was expressing my own personal frustration at my own personal circumstances. I in no way was intending to be malicious or harmful. I apologize deeply for this error in judgment."
By: Hot Gossip Gal Yup that is the whispers in the corridors of Def Jam, LA Reid is thinking of putting Dame in Jay’s seat when Hov’s contract is up at the end of the year. Now that would be an interesting thought…becasue Dame has got to be keen and eager to prove he can resore Def Jam’s credibility.
By: Rizoh Halle Berry has gone public with her support for Barack Obama by rocking an "Obama for Change" t-shirt. While she was out and about in LA, Halle was spotted wearing a campaign T-shirt that clearly indicates who’ll get her vote in the next presidential election. Berry recently starred in "Perfect Stranger". Obama auditioned for the White House on last night’s presidential debate hosted by MSNBC. Both Berry and Barack appeared on "The Late Show with David Letterman" earlier in the month.
By: Rizoh With all his big musical endeavors, you wouldn’t expect Ludacris (born Chris Bridges) to have some time left for the small screen. ‘Cris returns to Law and Order: SVU in the season finale, which will air on May 22. No, he’s not playing the role of rapper who makes millions by persuading the ladies to shake their “Money Maker.” Instead, Luda will revisit his role as Darius Parker—an accused murderer who will unleash some skeletons from the cast’s closet. It is later discovered that he’s the son of Ice-T’s ex-wife, which in turn puts Ice T’s family in a problematic position. Ludacris appeared in the award-winning feature film Crash alongside Don Cheadle and Thandie Newton. He recently played a small role in a movie titled Fred Claus, due out November 9th. ‘Cris also picked up the “Today’s Superstar” award at the Hollywood Life magazine’s ninth annual Young Hollywood Awards last weekend, and proclaimed: “This feels great because the transition from music to the movies has been a progression.”
By Quibian Salazar-Moreno Several weeks ago a rumor about Talib Kweli being slapped by a woman at a 50 Cent party made its way around the industry. Not only did the rumor say he got his jaw tapped, but then he went into a private room at 50’s house and cried. Well, Kweli went on Hot 97’s Miss Jones in the morning to set the record straight. “I was at 50’s house and I got to an argument with my girl,” Talib told Jones. “It got physical. Ain’t nobody go into a room was crying. But ya know, I’m a passionate dude and sometimes women get passionate. So you know, she got out of pocket and she got checked. It was an ugly situation for both parties, it didn’t make either one of us look good, but I’m glad it’s over with.” Talib went on to admit that they had an argument before going to the party, and with a few drinks in them, the argument carried over to the party. They are still together and Talib said that the argument is a little thing compared to the strength of their relationship. He also talked about his upcoming album, Ear Drum, the recent attacks on hip-hop, the Alec Baldwin phone call and Beyonce vs. J-Hud.. CLICK HERE TO LISTEN
By Quibian Salazar-Moreno Queen Latifah is just now finishing up the film version of “Hairspray” with John Travolta, but she already has her next project in her sights. Latifah and producer Adam Shankman have announced that they will do a remake of “All of Me”, Steve Martin and Lily Tomlin’s hilarious 1984 comedy, for New Line Cinema. In the original film, Tomlin plays a dying spoiled heiress whose soul ends up in the body of Steve Martin’s lawyer character. She controls the right of his body while he controls the left side. In the new version, Latifah will play a Jesse Jackson-type politician/activist whose soul enters the body of a conservative politician. "When New Line told us that they wanted to remake it with an African-American actress in the role, we said it’s got to be Latifah," said Jennifer Gibgot, Shankman’s producing partner. "Adam adores her and thinks she’s great with physical comedy, and as it happens, she wants to go back to doing physical comedy." Shankman is also producing “Hairspray” and produced the Latifah and Steve Martin 2003 flick, “Bringing Down the House.”
