By: Hot Gossip Gal That is what the word is on the street and wouldn’t the streets be happy to see those two wed? Apparently on vacation in the Bahamas together recently Keish was calling Jeezy her fiance and was supposed to be sporting a serious rock on her finger. I say good luck to them..that could be an interesting wedding.
By Quibian Salazar-Moreno The Roots had a pretty rough 2006. Although it started out nice with a new label and new album, but the album went on to sell just over 170,000 since it dropped last year. They’re still nominated for a couple of Grammys this year though (including Best Rap Album), and plan on celebrating it the night before the big show. On February 10, The Roots will hold their annual pre-Grammy show at the Gibson Theatre with special guests Lupe Fiasco, Jill Scott and Akon. ?uestlove recently gave some details on their new album which they hope to drop in October of this year or February of next year. In an interview with Billboard, ?uest said that they’ve got some songs done. "We are using a lot of synthesizer, but I don’t know if I could call this the electronic album or not," ?uest told Billboard. "Pretty much five or six songs are done, and four of them are synth-heavy." For now, the crew will be hitting the road, as they always do, in hopes of keeping their fans base happy and try not to worry about numbers. "We knew [“Game Theory”} was going to have as much to do with the marketplace as Barbra Streisand on the soul charts,” ?uest said. “But the way I look at it, this is definitely a return to form for us. Critics say we got our mojo back and our fan base agreed. That’s really all we were concerned about."
By Quibian Salazar-Moreno Growing up in Houston, we’re sure Beyonce knows what the Spanish-speaking folks like. She recorded a Spanish version of her hit “Irreplaceable” called “Irreemplazable” which is blowing up radio in cities like Phoenix, Los Angeles, and Albuquerque. In an effort to capitalize on that novelty, Beyonce recently recorded a duet with Latin superstar Alejandro Fernandez called “Amor Gitano”. The song will debut on the Telemundo novella (or soap opera), El Zorro on February 12. The song will then appear on the special edition of Beyonce’s album B’ Day, which will feature six additional tracks in Spanish and drop in April. There will also be a DVD version of B’Day that will feature 12 videos, two of them in Spanish that will be exclusively available at Wal-Mart in April.
By: Rizoh How about some positive news about DMX for a change? When he’s not too busy getting arrested for traffic violations, X stays preoccupied by designing an edgy and gritty line of clothing known as “DMX Authentic.” "Real clothing for real people is the inspiration in what many refer to as the ‘X Factor’ in the DMX apparel collections," explains a member of DMX’s design team. DMX apparel captures the nitch of the young, aggressive, and hip market looking for clothing to match their lifestyle. High-quality fabrics with state of the art graphic treatments and designs reflect what people want in contemporary clothing today, and the images represented on the initial product offerings represent DMX’s essence as a man and as an artist. “DMX Authentic” and the “Earl Simmons Signature Collection” will be available to the public on February 9, 2007.
By: Hot Gossip Gal Russels babys momma has always had this bi aura around her and it was commented on that after the couple broke up that Kimora kinda lost interest in Rusell after he stopped the extra females in their bedroom game. Anyhow Ms. Baby Phat was spotted with a blonde in a deep kiss moment at Cipriani in NYC the other night during Fashion Week. Whatever floats your boat I guess, but people been trying to tell me Uncle Rus is on the DL too for years.
By Quibian Salazar-Moreno A couple of years ago, Essence got fed up with the way hip-hop music in general was talking about and treating women. To combat the misogyny in the music, the magazine launched the Take Back the Music Campaign where they started calling out artists by name for the way talked about women. They also held a contest to find up and coming rappers who are more encouraging and uplifting towards women in their lyrics. This year, the contest returns looking for students between the ages of 15-18, who are unsigned, to write their best song and get a chance to be admitted into the 2007 Berklee 5-Week Summer Performance Program, with tuition and room paid for. “ESSENCE is pleased to partner with the Berklee College of Music once again to expose new voices in hip-hop that otherwise might not be heard, and give new talent the opportunity to develop through music education,” said Angela Burt-Murray, Essence editor-in-chief. The entries will be judged by Chuck D (legendary rapper, co-founder of Public Enemy), Spinderella (former Salt-N-Pepa DJ, co-host of the syndicated classic hip-hop radio show The Backspin), Jean Grae (rapper, songwriter, producer), Berklee professors Susan Kean Cattaneo (songwriting), Prince Charles Alexander (music production and engineering), Danielle Scott (ensemble), and student Ryan Williamson (contemporary writing and production major, founder of Rykeyz Productions). By: Will “Deshair” Foskey From back when he was only known as that dude who sat at the back of the bus and sang the hell out of the Coca-Cola jingle up until now, Tyrese has added a new a.k.a. to his repertoire: Renaissance Man. Oh, you must have thought that I was going to say, “Black-Ty”. Well Tyrese has been Black-Ty from the start. He was just wise enough to know what was best for his blossoming career at that time. Tyrese has done it all from modeling clothing for Tommy Hilfiger to knocking out exceptional performances on the big screen. The man who indirectly helped Morris Chestnut in bringing chocolate back (I thank you both, because my game with the ladies became that much easier) is able to adjust on the fly as if he wore the number 18 on his back for the Indianapolis Colts. His drive is unwavering, yet strategically calculated – anything less would be uncivilized. His latest musical contribution, “Alter Ego” which was released on December 5th, is currently #23 on the Billboard Top 200 charts selling 116,000 copies in its first week. For a long list of artists out there, selling over 100,000 copies in the first week is a cause for celebration. But for Tyrese, it leaves him to wonder what could have been if he was backed by his label on a higher scale. (This conversation took place a day after the release of his double album, “Alter Ego”) It has only been a day since Alter Ego hit the shelves. Have you taken any early looks at your sales so far or do you normally wait it out to know the entire first week total… Tyrese: It’s funny that you ask me about sales. I’m actually sitting down in an office in J. Records at this time. I truly believe that my fan base is like a cult following. So I’m just going to be real with you… based on my video not necessarily being #1 on BET or Mtv and based on my spot on the charts, there was a set projection on how many albums to put out there. But we’ve been getting so many calls and emails that Target, Best Buy, Circuit City, and Wal-Mart has no more albums on the shelves because my fans came through and ate up everything they had. My supply and demand was cut short from the start, so whatever my first week sales will be, I know that in my heart that more people would have the album if they were available. So right now, they are trying to fix it to make sure that it is available. But as an example, there’s like 150,000 units in back orders because of my fans that came in who weren’t able to get a copy, put there name on a list to receive it once copies made it back to the store. It’s a beautiful thing, but truthfully, I’ve been doing this for so long I’ve actually removed myself from being caught up in numbers (sales). The numbers don’t make or break me. I don’t really care about the awards, or any of that. For me, my drive is all about the passion. Tyrese has finally welcomed Black-Ty into the world. Talk about that journey from R&B star to basically starting at the bottom trying to prove to the world that you can emcee… Tyrese: I used to be a part of a rap group before I started singing called, “Triple Impact.” And as the R&B opportunity came up, I just wanted to get off the block to go and see the world. I’ve never been the one to question the order of the blessings. People say that it’s a jungle out here, but they choose to only swing on one vine – but once that vine loses its grip and falls, you never hear from them again. I am willing to figure out a way to stay creative and take advantage of the access that I have to people. So I go from one situation to the other. The crazy thing is, for the many things that I’m known for, there are so many things that I’m not known for that I actually do. I write movies, and I also run a multi-media empire called Headquarter Entertainment which is 10 different businesses under one roof. For me, there’s a lot of shit going on, but at the end of the day, the reason why I go as far as I go to spread my wings is because you’re not promised tomorrow. If you think about all of the natural disasters that are taking lives everyday; think about the fact that one of the greatest R&B singers that has ever done it, Gerald Levert has passed on, God Bless him. There were so many things that Gerald wanted to do, and that makes it even more disappointing that he passed on because there was so much more that we wanted to hear from him. There was just so much more that Gerald had to offer to the world – not just in music, he was also a great person. I’m 27 years old, so everyday I am on a mission to find a way to expand this opportunity. I was raised on these words: Every blessing taken for granted becomes a curse. The opportunity would never have been presented to you, if you weren’t supposed to find a way to take advantage of it. My career started from a 30 second Coca-Cola commercial, and I’m still here. In closing… Tyrese: To all of my fans, I just want to say thank you. There’s so many other people out there doing films; there are so many people out there dropping albums this week. I just want to say that I love ya’ll for showing up. I love ya’ll for getting behind me and believing in me. And I know that I’ve been away from the music thing for a minute because I’ve been away doing films, but when you go out and get this double album, you need to know that I gave you my best. I was not away from the music game this long, to come back and give you some bullshit. This is my best R&B album, and this is the best of me as Black-Ty. I took my time, this is a double album that is being sold as if it was one, and when you hear it, you’ll know that I gave it my best. Thank you, I love ya’ll…
By: Rizoh This shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone: DMX was arrested in Yonkers, NY on Friday for a moving violation. X ran the red light on Yonkers Ave, and was later found to have been driving with a suspended license. He was held overnight in the Westchester County Jail, and was released on $25,000 bail. The rapper is now slated to appear in court on Valentine’s Day, February 14th. DMX is no stranger to run-ins with the law. In fact, it would take all day to list all of X’s previous infractions. In June 2004, DMX was arrested on charges he and another man tried to steal a car in a parking lot at Kennedy Airport, while impersonating a federal agent. In April 2005, X was arrested for driving with a suspended license, shortly after he crashed into a cop vehicle. The rapper was pulled over in White Plains on June 2 for speeding and making unsafe lane changes. Police later found that he was not wearing a seat belt and did not have a driver’s license. A few days later, he was cited for carrying a concealed handgun outside of a nightclub in Scottsdale, Arizona.
By Quibian Salazar-Moreno The last time we heard from Macy Gray, she was cursing up a storm in Barbados and close to getting arrested because of it (it’s illegal to curse in public there). Now Gray has announced her new album, Big, is set to drop on March 27. The album will be released through will.i.am music group, a new label started by the Black Eyed Pea under Geffen Records. The album will also be produced by Will and feature appearances from Nas, Justin Timberlake, Fergie, Natalie Cole, and more production from Ron Fair and Jared & Whitey. Her last album, The Trouble with Being Myself, dropped in 2003 on Epic Records. Here’s the track listing for the album: "Finally Made Me Happy" "Shoo Be Doo" "What I Gotta Do" "One" "Glad You’re Here" "Slowly" "Ghetto Love" "Okay" "Get Out" "Treat Me Like Your Money" "Everybody" "Strange Behavior"
By: Hot Gossip Gal As Vivica Fox was arriving at her hotel in the wee hours of the morning in Miami when her wig dropped from her head. Now people in the vicinity thought it was actually a fox or a rat on the ground and it was only when one of Viv’s entourage shouted ‘weave down’ that people realized just what the furry impostor actually was. Hey it can happen to the best of us SMH.
By: Rizoh The family of Israel Ramirez, the slain bodyguard of rapper Busta Rhymes, has expressed their displeasure over Busta’s failure to cooperate with the law in ongoing investigations. According to the NY Daily News, Rhymes told Ramirez’s family that he would tell authorities what he knew but never did. "We really don’t want anything to do with that man," Ramirez’s sister, Sonia Rodriguez, told the Daily News. "He could stop breathing tomorrow, and I wouldn’t care. Whatever happens to Busta Rhymes is not going to bring back my brother." A police source also said that Busta “doesn’t want to lose money by getting the reputation for talking to cops, so a killer remains free." Not only has Busta Rhymes failed to cooperate with the law to find Ramirez’s killer, he has also broken financial promises made to his family. Stephanie Hires, the mother of the victim’s 6-year old son, is enraged that Busta has provided no financial support for her child, Stiles. 29-year old Ramirez (fondly referred to as “Iz”) was gunned down at the Green St. studio known as Kiss the Cactus last February. Cops found the blood-soaked father of three on his back, on the sidewalk and he rushed him to Woodhull Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:10 a.m. Despite the fact that there were about 500 people, including 50 Cent, DMX, Lloyd Banks and Tony Yayo, at the video shoot where Iz was killed, no leads have been developed in the investigations. And you wonder why hip-hop gets such a bad rap.
By: Hot Gossip Gal Eminems ex, Kim gave up some insight as to why the couple could never find a happy place when it came to their marriage. Infidelity was one of the main reasons she said in an exclusive interview on 20/20 as to why they divorced for the second time, only months after re-marrying. Yet another major no-no was the way in which Em had re-enacted choking her on stage with a blow up doll as he performed the song KIM, which actually talked about her cheating. It was this behavior that encouraged the mother of two to go home and slit her wrists. I wonder if Ice and Coco’s book would have helped. Ooops
