Shaman Work Recordings Label name: Shaman Work Recordings, Inc. Founded (Date): August 2003 Founders: Chris Craft and Lamar Gilliam Backstory (What’s the story behind the launch of the label? How was it launched? Why was it launched?): Shaman Work Recordings started as the brainchild of Divine Mind’s Chris “Rictor” Craft in the fall of 1999 while working towards a general science degree at Morehouse College in Atlanta. Shaman Work is one of several companies under the Crafted, LLC. umbrella, the direct result of a determined and restless entrepreneur attempting to make his mark in the music industry. The company began as one of several record labels under the Divine Mind network, a group that Craft founded with like-minded people he met during his studies at Morehouse College, including Lamar Gilliam who would later become co-owner of Crafted, LLC. Since then, the Divine Mind idea has expanded to incorporate different aspects of the music industry. Crafted, LLC. sub-companies include Shaman Work Recordings, I.M.A.D.U. Music – a music production company, and Alpha-n-Omega Magazine – an on-line magazine geared towards music production. Shaman Work Recordings resurfaced with the release of’s ‘The Alpha Project Vol. 1’ in the spring of 2002. This compilation featured such rising artists as B.I. and the Divine Mind crew. It was an important step in the process that shaped Shaman Work’s identity. Through word of mouth and internet buzz, the ‘Vol. 1’ compilation gained enough underground recognition and energy which resulted in the making of ‘The Alpha Projects Vol. 2,’ released in the spring of 2003. This album not only included Shaman Work artists as the previously mentioned B.I. and Divine Mind, but also featured the Neptunes, Clipse, and underground heroes Little Brother and Science Fiction aka Wale Oyejide. The conclusion was simple and audible; the artists of Shaman Work were able to hold their own against music’s finest. There was no turning back. That spring, Craft and his partner Gilliam decided to rebuild and strengthen their Shaman Work roster, adding musicians and artists with not only hip-hop aspirations, but other musical interests as well. They made it a point to add individuals with visions and aspirations to not only make good music, but also to innovate and elevate their musicality to higher levels. Likewise, the results can be seen in the variety of musical genres the label represents, including hip-hop, soul, jazz, and dance. Shaman Work’s diverse roster includes such artists as C.L. Smooth, Sol Uprising, Wale Oyejide aka Science Fiction, Emanon, Metal Fingers aka MF DOOM, Scienz of Life, Lacks aka Ta’Raach, Finale, Divine Mind, B.I., Bandwidth and Misters. The artists of Shaman Work Recordings are not afraid to push the boundaries of creativity and music. Their goal is to not only fill a void in hip-hop, but also a music world lacking in originality. Through future recordings, they will innovate and break down the existing barriers that suffocate other musicians. Company execs Chris Craft and Lamar Gilliam have put together a team that will lay the foundation for Shaman Work to become a mainstay in the entertainment industry. Greatest Achievements (What are the label’s proudest moments? Going platinum? Releasing a classic? Signing a legend?): *Making hip-hop history by releasing CL Smooth’s solo album ‘American Me’ after his 10 year hiatus from hip-hop. *Putting instrumental music in the forefront of the independent industry with releases like MF DOOM ‘Special Herbs’ and our famous ‘Beatology’ series. *Putting out the promotional release “Shaman Work Tribute: A Brief Education on the Musical Genius of Jay Dee” in order to help raise awareness of this great hip hop pioneer and to raise money for the foundation. Current and Future projects (What current projects are you pushing and what’s planned for the next year?): Currently pushing: CL Smooth ‘American Me’, John Robinson’s ‘The Leak Edition Vol. 2’, Wale Oyejide’s “Africahot!” & Scienz of Life’s “The Blaxploitation Sessions” Planned for 2007 (to name a few): *E.A. Floe – ‘The Streetwise’ LP *’Beatology Vol. 3 & 4’ LP *Wise Intelligent – Untitled LP *Trump – Untitled LP *Scienz of Life – Untitled LP *Tiffany Paige – Untitled LP Goals and Purpose (What kind of impact are you hoping to make on the industry? What goals do you have for the label?): Our main goal and purpose is to truly let our ideas manifest and keep originality in the forefront of our mission. The success of Shaman Work does not revolve around any one artist or company exec. Saying that, another important goal of our collective is to show the industry and the world that promoting family and synergy is the key to true success as a collective. Within the Game (How does the label fit within the current climate of hip-hop? Or does it even fit in at all? What’s the label’s personality in relation to the rest of hip-hop?): We have created our own world. Our fans get their passports stamped when they come to our realm. Our goal is to be truly independent and not have our music and business operations be effected by any trends that come and go in the industry. Shot Down

By: Hot Gossip Gal A 62 year old man was hospitalized in Alabama yesterday after being shot, not because of money, not over drugs, not over a female but for arguing with his 70 year old buddie over the height ofthe late great James Brown. I guess size really does matter after all.

Snoop fans can win doggie toys

By Quibian Salazar-Moreno Snoop Dogg recently announced his partnership with Limbo 41414 and Media Cartel, a mobile entertainment company, to hold daily and weekly auctions to give away signed CDs, Snoop’s line of dog gear and toys, and a chance to kick it with him at his Snooper Bowl event in Miami. All fans have to do is to bid daily and weekly on the prizes within a “Limbo Auction”. It’s a cell phone-driven text messaging game that integrates the components of both a sweepstakes and an auction. A Limbo Auction is distinct from other sweepstakes in that it’s truly an interactive game where the winner makes the lowest bid that no other player makes, not the highest bid. It encourages players to develop and employ bidding strategies and to stay highly engaged during each round as they receive comments and tips regarding their bids ( e.g., "you’re the lowest unique bid," "your bid is unique but not the lowest," etc.). 50 Cent Wants Men to Wear His Condoms

By: Rizoh Fresh off the launch of his G-Unit books novella, 50 Cent, is coming right back with a line of…wait for it…condoms!! Fiddy is set to release his own new line in condoms and sex toys, and even plans to create vibrators that looks just like him. As part of his safe sex campaign, 50 will donate a part of the proceeds from the condom sales to HIV awareness. You may recall that the G-Unit rapper first made his intentions known in an earlier GQ interview where he disclosed, "I need to make a motorized version of me. A motorized version of me will definitely have to be waterproof, so you could utilize it in the tub. A lot of them (vibrators) aren’t waterproof." In related news, a screenplay has been written for the G-Unit book "Ski Mask Way," and plans are in place to shoot the movie next summer.

Kanye Signs up for Reality Show with “BORAT” Producer

By: Rizoh Grammy-winning rapper/producer Kanye West is ready to take on the big screen. West will star in a HBO reality series currently being fleshed out with Larry Charles, the director behind the successful HBO show "Entourage" as well the controversial mockumentary "Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan." No title has been picked for Kanye’s series yet, but it’s expected to zoom in on the day-to-day activities of the Windy City rap star. He is also slated to appear in a feature film inspired by his music. The project, backed by New Line Cinema, will paint a portrait of the United States as seen through the eyes of Kanye West and several other filmmakers. Kanye, a self-proclaimed "Louis Vuitton Don," has released two critically acclaimed rap albums, The College Dropout and Late Registration. One can only hope that Ye’s reputation for generous self-appraisal does little to impede the success of the so-called reality show.

Tasters Choice

By: Hot Gossip Gal Ok so I heard that they are now just good friends, Flavor Flav and Deelishes. However I hear that the new man in the life of Deelishes is actually none other than my fave BK homie Busta Rhymes. Busta recently divorced from his wife and mother of his four kids gets big props for holding shit down at home. He has sole custody of his boys after it didn’t work out withe their moms, who is now living with another female. Funny world isn’t it? Annoys me though that here we have a good dude taking care of his responsibilities but all we hear are the negatives about him…boooo to the media but hope you and Deelishes have some fun..y’all deserve it

In the BK Corner

By: Hot Gossip Gal The gossip blogs are starting to heat up and the rumor that has wires melting is that Jay Z actually beats up his hottest chick in the game. I find this so hard to believe. For one Tina and Matty are toooooo involved in their offspring’s life to let this go down and remember Beyonce is that bootylicious independent woman. But here is the so called e mail they received at I am sure this will be a major topic of discussion, well its authenticity will be anyway. "I wanted to bring this to because I know how you all like to put stuff out no matter what it is. So I felt that I should expose Jay for the ugly [EXPLETIVE] he is. Seems that for a while he’s had a problem with keeping his hands to himself. Now I’ve never seen him just flat out strike Bee, but too many times have I seem him shove and push her. At first I thought that it was just a little horse play thing between the two – but once I saw how embarrassed Bee was to be man-handled in the front of me in St. Tropez – I realized that it was no joke. I’ve been [Beyonce's assistant] and friend for a while now and I’ve always wanted to say something but I never felt it was my place. He treats Beyonce like she’s an object and not a person. The [EXPLETIVE] should be happy that a beautiful woman finally wants and loves his ugly [EXPLETIVE] for more than just what’s in his pockets."

Artist/Group Name: Motion Man Masters of illusion/Clifton Santiago/Paul Kenneth/Ernie Drastic/Motion Stanfield Reppin’: I was born in Hayward California I have lived all over the bay. I Represent the HAYSTACK… Affiliation: I am an introvert. I usually do my own thang. Occasionally you’ll see me with the likes Of Kutmasta Kurt or Kool Keith. L.C., Fat Head, or Tytus Penn Influences: God, My late Father Walter Ralph Laster (RIP POPS), NFL, Frankie Beverly and Maze, Nas, Big Bootys, I have a pretty big list this could turn into an album shout out. Backstory: I heard Rappers delight and I was in the mirrors reciting the lyrics. I was hooked. My 1st label deal was with Stepsun records Bill Stepheny’s label. I got the deal through Sway and tech of wake up show fame who were representing me at the time. My next label deal was with an indie threshold records Kutmasta Kurt’s label which I reside on now. I had known Kurt for while so we recorded some things together and he decided he wanted to put me out as an artist. We’ve been rolling ever since. Current project: My album out know is titled Pablitos Way. It was basically put together in the mold of a radio cassette tape that was made. When I would make tapes off the radio it would be all types of different sounding songs on the tape. I wanted to bring it back and have my album have that feel to it. I titled it Pablitos Way because that’s my name in Spanish Paul. When I was younger a lot of my friends moms would call me Pablo or Pablito when I came around there cribs so the name kinda stuck with me. Purpose: Platinum? Of course. I also want stability and be able to put out records until I don’t want to anymore. Is hip-hop really dead? It’s just over saturated now. I mean when I was coming up I had to really look hard for good hip hop records, now you gotta look even harder. Most stuff they play is just geared at blowing up. Then bye-bye tomorrow. A quick buck. Well see though its time for a change something’s gotta give. Three wishes: I wish my man Tupac was still here. Every time I saw Pac he was real cool with me and always asked ‘Motion? When yo shit droppin?’ I wish the Djs who you was cool with and used to love your shit and would hang with you tuff before they got put on would Play your records now. Yea and I would love a Kayne West track, or Pharrell, or Dre.

The best dressed list includes Kate Winslet, Angelina Jolie, Beyonce, Katie Holmes, Helen Mirren, Barbra Streisand, Nancy Pelosi, Princess Charlotte of Monaco, Heidi Klum and Marcia Cross. But those that had his head shaking as his mouth dropped to the floor were the usual pop tarts that frequent the columns with or without clothes, oh and a few old has-beens, Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, Camilla Parker-Bowles , Lindsay Lohan , Christina Aguilera and Mariah Carey, Paula Adbul, Sharon Stone, Tori Spelling and Meryl Streep.

Author: “Most people believe hip-hop is simply about rap”

By Quibian Salazar-Moreno With hip-hop being over 30 years old, it’s not a surprise that most fans of the music today forget about the foundation and its influence across the world of the arts. In an effort to educate hip-hop fans on how hip-hop has changed the arts world, author Jeff Chang has written an addendum of sorts to his first book, Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop: A History of the Hip-Hop Generation, called Total Chaos: The Art & Aesthetics of Hip-Hop. The book acknowledges how hip-hop has influenced and transformed everything from poetry, literature, theatre, dance, the visual arts, graphic design, and photography. “Most people believe hip-hop is simply about rap,” Chang told HipHopCrack. “So the book helps show how hip-hop has affected the entirety of the arts. People in the hip-hop arts movement have been building with each other across disciplines and genres quite a bit in recent years, and many of us thought it was important to capture these discussions and ideas. There’s a very important burgeoning field of hip-hop studies, but the balance has been weighted far too heavily towards the cultural critics and away from the artists.” Look for the book to hit shelves on February 1. Tyrese’s Girlfriend Denies Punching Bag Incident

By: Rizoh Tyrese Gibson\’s girlfriend has done a 360 on earlier reports that the R&B singer had punched her in the stomach during an altercation. Her attorney released a press statement debunking the allegations. "Reports Tyrese punched my client–his girlfriend–in the arm, thigh or anywhere else are false," said attorney Paul Berra. "It is true, Mr. Gibson and his girlfriend had been arguing. She became very emotional and distressed during the argument and called 911 in an attempt to get a mediator. Mr. Gibson, frustrated, left the home. My client, Mr. Gibson\’s girlfriend, who is 11 weeks pregnant, then became more upset and began throwing up. When the paramedics arrived, concerned about the baby, they took her to the hospital. Fortunately, she was fine. Once at the hospital, she was asked by a nurse whether she had been assaulted. She said no. She was then asked what her pain level was on a scale of zero to ten. She said zero. She then discharged herself." As for the future of Tyrese and his woman, Berra offers: "Mr. Gibson and his girlfriend are very much still in love, together and excited about their expectant child. She is quite saddened that this event was so distorted."

They wouldn’t get far?

By: Hot Gossipi Gal OK so The Game is shooting the next video from his album The Doctors Advocate, the joint where he disses the video chicks and the endless females that try to catch on to rappers (because they are such a good catch!!!) There may even be some of the video chicks in the video that the Game dissed…hmmmm now that may be a case of hoping for too much, as the joint was a straight diss which pi**ed off the likes of Melyssa Ford. However The Games manager Jimmy Rosemond (Henchman) said "They had two choices: You could either be clowned or we can make this fun where people won’t take it as serious. If you fight against it, it becomes serious, ’cause we could get the look-alikes and clown in fun. But if you participate, it can be more impactful. For instance, [model] Melyssa Ford, we’ll have her in a Honda Accord [in the video], but then Game will kinda wake up out of that spell and we’ll have her in a 500 Benz. We’ll clean it up for her. It’s all in fun, though." Wow this is going to be a video to check for…will Ms. Ford stop by? I guess if the money is right, she just might.
